What's your favorite big black pen?

OK I am relatively new to fountain pens but I have learned through buying and selling them over the past 2 years that I prefer the more traditional, conservative looking pens. I am attracted to the simple, classic looks of a "big black pen".. My favorite right now is my modern 149, but I am looking for the wisdom of the FPN members to recommend others, including vintage. I tend to prefer firm nibs, as the Pelikan M1000 nib was too flexible and wet for my writing purposes. I am not necessarily looking for huge, long pens, just the ones that are on the larger size. For example, my other favorite black pen is my Pelikan M900 toledo, which I much prefer to the M1000.

Thanks in advance.

Though I'm just starting to use my 149,I have to say that my oversize 1936

Parker Vac in black gets a lot of use. It has a slightly flexible nib that

writes a F to EF line very smoothly. Now if it weren't as ambered as it is,

that would be the icing on the cake...........

At this point I think my favourite pen is the Brahmam. Handmade BHR pressure bar filler, loads 4.5 mk ink. Handmade 14Kt broad nib which writes like a flex with line variation. OK so its a 149 look alike, but its the best Indian pen I have come across till now.

M1000 because of the size; M900 because of the weight. 149, no, because it's a MB.

If we can't have the M1000 (and if you like the M149, I'm really surprised the M1000 doesn't do it for you) then how about a nice big Pilot? The Custom 823 has a lot going for it, or if you need to spend a bit more, the 845?

I don't actually own one, but my favourite big black pen would have to be a Visconti Opera Master.

The size of the M1000 is fine...its the flexible nib that I'm not fond of. No doubt most of the aficianados appreciate the flexibility of the 1000's nib...but for my purposes it was just too wet..even with a fine nib. The 149's modern nib is firmer & drier..which I like...
