Sailor ProColor 500

Fantastic review, I love the look of the nibs & the purple + red ones are starting to grow on me.

I second that!

Thanks for the review. Very nice to hear that the ProColor really came through. A Sailor 1911 with a few minor cosmetic differences, at a significant discount. Plus, a nice range of colors to choose from over the usual (black, red, yellow).

:o It's bad enough that there is a Purple one, but a TEAL one too?! Be still my Mastercard!

To my eye, the teal looks better in person and the red looks worse in person. I bought the red, but have 2nd thoughts wondering if I should've gotten baige. The writing quality is sooooo good I would even buy the purple because of the nib

I'm unsure whether to get one of these or save up a little more and get a Sapporo Mini. I think I need to try a Sailor nib.

I don't think Sailor's nibs are special, though I do like them better than Pilot's. I just don't like them as much as Platinum's/Nakaya's.

No experience with anything Sailor but their gold nibs. Two Sapporos and one 1911 in my collection all with good build quality. They are high on my list of favorites both for smooth writing and degree of flow. If I needed another pen (heh), I'd give a ProColor a go.

May anyone post sample writings using Sailor Procolor? Thanks!

(If possible I would ask for comparing various nibs)

Please let me know if the Procolor uses the same nib as the Somiko. Surely someone owns one of both, and will kindly answer my question. Thank you.

The Medium is a little broader than the Fine, but not much.

By chance, do you know how the sailor Fine nib compares with the pilot Fine nib. I have a pilot Prera with Fine nib. It is a bit too fine for me and was wondering if the sailor fine would be as well.

Hello,

I have a Procolor with Fine nib. From the data nibs.com Sailor fine nibs has a width of 0.30 mm , Pilot fine nibs has a width of 0.35 mm. So in comparison, I think pilot runs a little wider. I wanted to buy this pen in Medium nib, but it wasn't available at the engeika (great ebay seller btw).

Take Care,

Thanks Emrecan for the info. I ordered a beige Procolor in medium yesterday. It is good that I made the right decision going with medium.

Hi Emrecan,

I ordered it from Swisher Pens. I was only there to get Aurora inks, but finished the order with inks, pads, and a Sailor Procolor.

I got a Pink/Red Procolor in an M nib and with Kiwaguro, it writes like ice on Teflon. One of my absolute favorite pens! Great ergonomics, too!

I also picked up ANOTHER ProColor in an F nib over in the For Sale section of FPN. I can't WAIT to get my mitts on it and put some Jentle ink in it!

I'll throw my oar into the pond as well ...

I've not long received a Wisteria ProColor from Taizosan (eBay engeika) with a fine nib and have put Sailor nioi-sumire (fragrant pansy) in it. I have two Sailor Pro Gear pens already, both fine nibbed. The ProColor is a very attractive pen. Nice weight and good balance. In the hand it feels like quality. The steel nib is most impressive, laying down a smooth consistent ink flow regardless of direction or speed. There is a slight amount of nib bite, which I usually find disappears with the more you use a steel nib.

I can't use mine unposted, but posting is easy, positive and stays in place. I intend to buy another with an M nib sometime soon. I would go along with many other posts in this topic and recommend this model for value and performance.

I have purchased one of these as well. Not my favorite choice of colors. Well designed, nice cigar-shaped body. They could use a better plastic. I like that tiny o-ring on the section.

What I did not like is ... yes, the F nib. Scratchy... Tried to smooth it out. Did not work. IMHO< a good pen is one which writes well right out of the box. I have several pens with F nibs, they are thin indeed but NOT scratchy. In two days, I gave up, and my first and the only Sailor joined other pens in the storage. I really expected better job from Sailor. WILL STICK WITH PILOT! They never let me down (so far).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
