Plastic Pilot Birdies

Just curious if anyone else has these. I have only seen them online once.

It has a bluish gray barrel and black "jewels" of sorts on both ends, which make for the very slight difference in height. "Jewel" at the end of the barrel is marked "Japan." The barrel has tacky writing on it which states, "She dreamt of the pretty toy. Pilot Made in Japan 700." The clip is metal with a black plastic overlay with the name "birdie."

As far as I can tell, the nibs are identical. However, the grip pattern is different, as can be seen here (sorry for the dirty nib on the metal one, it is presently inked):

I missed those and they look pretty neat. Have several-too many- Birdies but could always use a plastic one. Where did you see them? Tberry

Hi, Tberry, I've only seen them in a local store here in the Philippines. They were priced the same as the metal ones. They had them in blue and black but I saw a photo of a pink one in someone's blog before.

Hi, i have seen these ones and another clipless version called the "Birdie pet". the nib on the above and birdie pet is different from the nib on the regular steel version.

Edit: hey look at the nibs in the last picture in the OP, the flat portion and the hump at the back on the regular version's nib.

Hi! I bought mine at the 32nd Manila International Book Fair @ SMX Convention Center and here's a picture of it. I tried googling this pen and found your post. It seems there's nothing else about this pen anywhere else. I'm curious when it came out.

And today, I bought the stainless steel version of the Pilot Birdie - fountain pen and ballpoint pen. The mechanical pencil was not available. According to Cult Pens (http://www.cultpens.com), the fountain pen has been discontinued by Pilot. Anybody know if this is true?

The Pilot Birdie Stainless Steel has the same nib and feed as the Pilot Vortex.

The 2-colour multi ballpoint was the first of the Birdie family to be discontinued. The fountain pen was discontinued about 2 years ago.

The ballpoint, pencil and the twin ballpoint-pencil combination are still in production.

Great tiny instruments, all of them, pity about the pen...

I remember Birdie of long ago. Decent enough writer but I could not use it for extended period because of the slim barrel. Just discovered a fountain pen from Daiso that is somewhat feels like a birdie but with medium equivalent nib with some flex which writes better than the drier birdie. It does reminds me of birdie. Build quality and material is not as good as birdie was though and it does not come with a converter.

They are discontinued since years ago, pity. I have 6 stainless steel, got it at one dollar each, the history of my birdies is here in fpn with photos, published years ago. Wonderful pen.
