after i filled my pen i tried wiping it off but it seemed like ink would just keep coming out of the nib. Would putting it under running water work?

Just a quick wipe with a tissue - don't let the tissue linger, just stroke forward 1 and stroke forward 2 and you're done.

Yes, holding under running water (cold) is fine. You may dilute the ink in the top of the feed that way, and depending on the feed, it may take a couple lines of writing to come back to full color. Some pens take far longer than others. A Parker 51 has almost no recovery time because it has so much ink available to the nib.

Ink will continue coming out of the nib -- it's a feature!

Don't worry about having the nib too clean. I just do a quick wipe.

Of course it'll work, but that's not enough!

Fill a glass or cup with luke warm water, Shove the nib gently into same and fill, empty, fill, empty up to 10 times.

Repeat if necessary with water plus a drop or 2 of dishwater soap.

Finally, repeat same with water only. Preferably distilled/deionized/filtered water.

Dry off the gills under the nib and fill and empty 1-2-3x with the ink of your choice.

Joyce, you're talking about cleaning. OP was talking about immediately after filling but before using.

I'm not sure the OP was referring to flushing the pen; more toward wiping the nib after filling.

i just put it under water, and after writing with it for 10 minutes i think the color is finally statting to darken back to normal.

Okay, Deirdre and you guys, I would still say forget about the running water. Just dry off carefully but thoroughly the nib with a piece of you-know-what paper, especially suck off any ink excess from the gills under the nib so that the nib top and nib bottom at least "look dry". That ought to do it.

If ink still wants to come out of the nib, then [A] try using a dryer ink, and/or get the pen fixed.

Whenever I fill a pen from a bottle, I always hold the end of the section and nib/feed under a slight drizzle of tap water for just a second and wipe off the water with loo paper. I was taught that method by my dad in the late 1950's and I have used it since.
