Nothing wrong with this. Both are functional and effective. Both are worth every penny.  Law of diminishing returns starts to kick in just above these in price

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

Perhaps the law of diminishing returns kicks in much earlier - at the sundial, stylus, and clay tablet stage?

Depends on how much accuracy and weather related availability you want in your time keeping. And how portable you need your writing to be.

A friend of my brother's growing up inherited a Bulova watch from IIRC his grandfather.  And thought it was some junker until he discovered that Bulova was actually a high-end brand (because he'd never heard of it before getting the watch).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Well yes, I'm aware that Bulova, along with Hamilton are the last standing historic American brand names (maybe Benrus too). However, Bulova is owned by Citizen now and this particular model is at the low end :)

I was motivated to show it, because the one posted above by @Minty is an authentic 1962 spec 46374B military watch (probably a Benrus DTU of the early 70s), while mine is a replica of the 3818A spec prior issued in the same year (originally made by Bulova AFAIK).
