- Is the painting 100% hand made? An artist make 880 pieces? There should be some expected differences from piece to piece then.

- I read body is brass??

I think that this pen was made by Togidashi-Taka-Makie technique, of course hand-made. Kokkokai is a name of artisan group: this pen is a work by the division of labor. The body was made of brass.

So worth accidentally going over my phone data limit to see this review..

I suppose it's a few years since your initial post, do you ever notice any wearing off of the materials on to your hands with frequent use ?

I have recently had this 88th pen. This pen was old stock for about 10 years. I use this pen everyday. I think the powdered gold in the cap ends and barrel end has turned slightly reddish. In fact it is better like that. The pen has become to have more refined elegance.

Ah, I heard such pens do develop changed over the years. Would be interested in seeing a comparison if you had the time. Too many initial reviews of these lovely pens without follow ups of how they change over the years. Looking forward to buying one myself.. Someday

Good lord I would love nothing more than a namiki maki-e or chinkin pen with a super soft, fine nib.

Someday.

Hah, I just realized shianloon said the same thing.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)
