New Caran d' Ache inks on test.

I've got the grand canyon, which is a beautiful ink (great tones and a rich dark brown - almost muddy!). When I was in Selfridges the other week they only had Blue Sky - you might want to ring them first. I got mine at the Pen Shop in Leadenhall. If they now have storm in stock at Selfridges let me know I might send my daughter to get some in her lunch hour!

Cheers

Storm....yes, they had some last night at Selfridges. They didn't have it in the Pen Shop so it wasn't one that I tested. It was only reading the reviews here, that made me 'WANTIT'!

I'll be heading there at lunch anyway. As I guided the Mrs round last night I was taking great interest in all the little 'OOooohs' she made. I'm going back to buy said items for her Christmas surprise stocking fillers. (chocolate jazzys, cherry things, new Justin Timberlake CD...).

D'oh - I now have to go all the way to Selfridges (I work at Oxford Circus) to buy a bottle of ink! That Storm looks great...

Hmm, didn't make it at lunch. That darn work thing got in the way.

What's the bet, that now that I've mentioned they have Storm at Selfridges on here, there'll be none left when I get there later!!

Oh, and forgot to say, Will - from your description think I might try Grand Canyon as well.

Have been using Blue Sky all day, and I'm thinking its like Quink washable blue with 5-10% purple added.

Anyone know where you can see samples / swatches of these inks on-line?

is pam the only seller? I like working with Pam - just wondering if there were other sellers in the US.

Not that I need more ink. But the Storm looks very tempting. I've looked a long time for a not-quite-purple-but-not-muddy burgundy/bordeaux and been consistently disappointed.

KCat,

Have you tried my "Umbergine" mixture? (or variations thereof).

I have not. how close to Tanzanite is the Iraqi indigo?

I haven't mixed in a long time. I think I'm getting lazy and hoping someone will just make the color I'm looking for. The Suarigo (sp?) looks interesting as well.

My early mix that gave me exactly what I wanted was Vespucci Red, something purple and a tiny bit of Levenger cobalt.

But my neighbour pointed out that it was barely different from PR Plum. Actually what she said was "How is that different from this?" as she wrote with the fresh bottle of Plum I had given her. <_< I've since decided that Plum is too red. :)

Maybe after Christmas I'll break out the 6-well plate and the syringes again. :)

If you like, I'll send you vials of Umbergine and Saguarigo to try out.

That would be lovely. Don't put yourself out, though.

And for goodness sake, don't be honest at the PO like I was. "yes, there's a little vial of ink in the package."

Well, can't accept it. T.S.

(but that's another long rant for a different thread someday)

I would guess Tanzanite is a lot "bluer".

I have the Caran d'Ache ink in Storm.

Caran d'Ache is either a French or Swiss company and their products are astounding, wonderfull, great quality.

I was given a tin box of their colored pencils in the first year of high school or maybe the last year of middle school, one sure thing, I was in my teens, and they were used a lot in Geography class and for color coding my essays.

They lasted me past high school, college and trade school.

I studied Geography in college and the pencils were used daily to color code rock formations.

I transfered the pencils from their tin box, to a vinyl case when I needed to transport them to school and they sill looked new when I last went to visit France.

I bought the Storm ink for the bottle. When it's empty I'll use it as an inkwell, maybe with my own brew of bordeaux.

I can assure you that if I were to transfert the content of an Herbin ink bottle into that tiny ink boat it will overflow.

I believe that the ink contains no more than 3 or maybe 4 refills for the biggest Pelikan. Dry writers and c/c fillers might get more out of it.

I don't remember how much I paid for the bottle but I found it was cheap for a beautiful inkwell.

Pens, inks, inkwells this hobby sure can keep on giving!

Hi chupie, glad to see you back on FPN. Pam's site is www. oscarbraunpens.com. I don't have the Carribean Sea ink, but I have been using the others for a while now. I can tell you that the inks are very well behaved, no problems in either vintage or modern pens. Enjoy!

Hi chupie!

I got the Caribbean Sea yesterday and it's gorgeous! I will scan a sample tomorrow at work and post it here.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
