Sheaffer Caligraphy Pen

I was surprised the other day by a Shaeffer caligraphy pen. These are available in a minicaligraphy kit in Canada for 17.98. You get 4 ink cartridges and one pen with three sizes of italic nib. For $9.98 you can get a pen with a single nib. I bought the set and am very pleased. So far I have only tried the "fine" caligraphy pen ( I beleive it is 0.8) but it is so smooth as to be unbelievable. Itleaves the Pilot 78G in the dust. For the money it feels better constructed and is less than half the price of the Pilot. Perhaps this is because I think iI see Iridium on the Shaeffer's nib and there is none on the Pilot? I have to admit that other than a Greg Minuskin ground italic nib, this is the smoothest italic I own. Could be a one off but its worth a try if you have a Michael's nearby. No affiliation.

I have the kit as well.

50% off with a coupon, right?

Mine has the clip with a lil bit of wear, looks like rusting.

I got one of these not too long as well. It was VERY smooth; I was definitely surprised. I wish it came a little finer though. The "fine" is still too broad for my liking. But it's still nice. My teachers love it because it forces me to write bigger... (I have tiny writing; about font size 12). :P No, it's not my daily writer; that would be my Lamy. But I do use it once in a while for paperwork cause my writing looks neater.

I got mine at Michaels for $3.25USD after tax and discount (40 or 50% off any 1 item coupon).

I have quite a few of these and I love them! I like the fine point best...and sometimes use the medium when I want a change. I've even done some highlighting with the broad nib with a yellow cartridge.

Have fun with them.

Cheers.

If you like these, try to find an old-style No Nonsense calligraphy kit (frequently available on the 'bay)--I find them to be much smoother and more reliable. Once Bic bought Sheaffer and took them out of Ft. Madison, I found the quality to be not as good.

But be careful--the No Nonsense pens come in lots of colors and patterns and can be quite addictive. And the BPs and RBs are so easy to convert to FPs....

My friend has one. It is an older one and it still works wonderfully. It only has a little crack on the side of the barrel since she accidentally dropped it on a very hard surface one time. When she let me try it I managed to use up almost an entire cartridge of ink. I couldn't help it. It was so smooth and the green was so wonderful! I did re-pay her by giving her my green J Herbin Cartridge for her other fountain pen.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
