I have a question about parker super quink ink. How long does it last before it goes bad? I want to buy a few bottle of ink, but I don't want to find out after a year that the ink is not good anymore.

Thank you guys for your responds.

If ink is kept under climate-controlled conditions, and out of bright light, it will last for decades.

I have some Quink that is about forty years old, and writes just fine!

I'm sure others will report.

May you have pens you enjoy, with plenty of paper and ink. :)

Please use only my FPN name "Gran" in your posts. Thanks very much!

Hello,

I have never seen nor heard of SUPER Quink, so I will respond in terms of my experience with ordinary Quink.

I agree with prior post by Gran, although my experience has to do with 20-year old Quink, and that was an unopened bottle. I have noticed that an opened bottle of permanent Quink BlBk was a tad darker than originally, but over time the Washable Blue didn't seem to change at all.

Best Regards,

Sandy1

Slightly off topic: The most recent line of Quink does not designate certain inks as being 'Permanent' or 'Washable'. Also, strangely enough, the recent BlBk comes in 2 versions: one with a UK address, and 'Sanford' on the bottom of the box; the other version comes in a different box, with a French address. The UK version is somewhat lighter in density/saturation, but the colour/tint seems very similar. (Tests done with an inked - not dipped - Lamy Safari on laid paper.) Both bottles are molded on the bottom to read 'France'.

  • 9 years later...

I recently obtained a box of 12 72ml plastic bottles of Super Quink. They appear to have been made in Canada and I'm guessing they're about 20-30 years old. I opened one of them and it looks about 60% full. These were supposed to be new old stock so I expect there has been a bit of evaporation.

I'm thinking that the phenol, a main part of Solv-x, has probably evaporated too since I don't smell any and it is a known volatile.

I'm thinking of adding a couple of drops of phenol solution as a biocide when I reconstitute the ink to its proper dilution.

Anyone know any ink chemists?

Anyone know any ink chemists?

Head over to the ink forums on FPN - all kinds of alchemy happening there.

Not sure if I've ever had Super Quink, but Quink is one of my regular go-to inks.

I did have a large bottle, which I found in my late father's stuff. It was decades old and wrote excellently.

Parker Quink is the only ink I can still find on most UK high streets. It's usually reasonably priced, so I pick up a bottle quite regularly. Great basic ink, imho.

Enjoy.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
