Best Ink Retailers

I thought it would be fun and informative to share in one place information about our favorite ink retailers. Who are your favorites, and why? I know some dealers are better for certain brands. I also know of some I am hesitant to deal with because they charge very high shipping charges for ink.

I'll start:

1. I love Pear Tree for inks. Because they go to the trouble to sell samplers for a very reasonable price, I tend to buy ink from them whenever I can. Their service is quite good, they are reliable, and their shipping charges are reasonable.

2. I also like Swisher Pens a lot for inks. They have a great selection, reliable service, and reasonable shipping charges.

Swisher Pens. It gets the ink to me faster and more cheaply than the other online sellers I've tried.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

I like to buy as much ink locally as possible because I buy more ink than pens, but I can't always find all the brands I like in town. When that's the case, I've had good transactions with Swisher (see a pattern emerging?) and JetPens.com in the US -- I'm sure other places are good too, I just haven't tried them yet. :)

Pear Tree and Swisher usually; BUT often Greenman on ebay has a wide selection of Noodler's both domestic, Russian ad others that Pear Tree or Swisher don't carry.

Art Browns. Biggest selection of inks...and I can walk to the store!

You gotta love Jetpens for their large selection (of Noodler', PR, and Iroshizuku that is) and best of all, the free shipping for orders $25 and over! They sell their ink at retail, but I save five bucks everytime I order from them.

To this excellent list, I'd like to add Paramount Goods, LLC, more commonly known as xfountainpens.com, and their Chesterfield inks. The bottles are simple jars, but I've found the inks quite satisfactory and it's free shipping for orders over $15.00 (USA only).

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

I love that pug! And the chair. I've wanted a pug but we have a serious passel o' cats.

I agree about Pear Tree. I have reeived a huge number of samples from them and now do try to buy because that service has been so helpful. They have a sale on Caran d'Ache Colors of the Earth inks right now.

I've bought several from Art Brown's store, after I got Subway Series Sepia from there. They do seem to always have the ink on hand. Some others are out of stock a bit of the time.

I got my first inks from A Pen Lover's Paradise. They are also very nice to deal with.

His nibs for Private Reserve.

He's the only international site I've used for ink, but it was a good experience. I've used local shops/ national sites at other times.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
