Freemasons and Pens

NLP

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

My husband is a member of the Masonic Lodge. So I thought I would start a thread that would certainly interest him. (I'm getting on his good side so he won't mind any new pen purchases I will make in the near future) I was wondering if anyone had pictures of vintage or modern pens pertaining to the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, etc., and also if there were any other Masons among our diverse group here on FPN.

Thanks in advance!

Ashley

The only one I know of is this pen, not quite Free Mason's but its a beautiful but very pricey pen; Jacque deMolay

My father's 'on the square', but doesn't have any masonic pens. He does have things like watch fobs and rings with the insignia, though.

The only company I remember doing masonic pens for definite was Cross (and possibly only ballpens) - as well as the masonic insignia they also personalised their Century pens with Rotary Club and company logos.

I have a Parker Duofold Jr with the Square and Compass on the top.. I am also a Traveling Man...

Parker, Sheaffer, Waterman and most of the big companies offered emblems for the higher end pens they made...

I don't know of any modern companies that do that.... and the vintage pens are getting harder and harder to find...

Oooh! I do!!! I have a very, very nice old Waterman gold overlay (0512 PSF) that is in amazing condition - per eBay listing, it's circa 1913. It has a lovely Masonic inscription/engraving on the side and end. I got it on eBay - probably bid too much, but my great grandfather was the 33rd Degree Most Worshipful Grand Master of the lodge in Atlanta, Georgia. So, I was motivated...

These photos are from the seller/eBay (I'm rotten at photos).

Edit: No one else is in the Masons in my family, though my great aunt (great grandfather's sister in law) was in Eastern Star way back when. My mother has her ring...

Another Mason here - I was pleasantly surprised to find this thread, as I had thought about starting one on the same subject myself!

Letchworth's has an interesting looking pen covered with Masonic symbols:

£27.50, which at the moment works out to about $45.50 USD - I've been meaning to write and ask if they have any information as to the manufacturer of the pen, which looks quite interesting.

Fraternally,

I'm a very active Freemason and I purchased a Masonic Fountain pen not long ago. You can read my review of the pen by visiting:

I am W. Master of a Canadian lodge and am delighted to have a place to present fraternal greetings to fellow pen enthusiasts. I too have been looking for a masonically inscribed pen, with which to sign the minutes.

Just chiming in as another Mason -- Past Master of Doric Lodge #568 in New Bern, NC.

I don't have any pens with a Masonic theme. I see them from time to time. Some day I will probably grab one.

Do I scent a business opportunity for one of our custom pen makers? Somehow a Masonic fountain pen seems like a natural.

I would have thought so. David Oscarson's Jacques de Molay pen and Visconti's Knights Templars are so far beyond my means that I will probably never even be able to touch one, let alone own it. I hope that whoever becomes the maker of such a pen bears in mind that it must be affordable.

I thought that Free Masons prefer to be secretive-demonstrating membership was a taboo and doing so leads to pitchcapping.

Freemasonry has changed significantly over the past few years. It appears to be more open and accepting. Showing affiliation with the group doesn't mean you have to give away the handshake.

Science is a way of skeptically interrogating the universe with a fine understanding of human fallibility.

Freemasonry has always been an important part of the community. But it has been beset by superstitious attitudes that originated as a method of suppressing, what some power groups perceived as, competition. It is actually society that has changed, not Freemasonry. Society has tended to discard superstition and has become more open and pluralistic. Also with the advent of internet systems, there is a degree of anonymity so masons can meet each other in public forums, while still hidden behind an avatar. In this regard, it is important to understand that Freemasons are proud of their membership. They are proud of the works they do, unheralded and in secret. As an example my lodge gives bursaries to girls who would not otherwise have been able to go to university. We do not want anyone to know it is us doing it, so it is done secretly. If people know that you are contributing to things, they line up whether they deserve help or not. It may surprise you to know that if something is to be given, there are people who will take it, even if they do no need it. This tends to detract from that which is available to the genuinely needy. So yes, we are a confidential lot, but not secret.

So nice to find this thread. As a recently raised Mason, I am beginning a search for a nice vintage masonic pen. If there are any available, please let me know!

Thank you!
