what pen to get with 100 pound?

I've got a Phileas, a Safari and a Sapporo, and the Sapporo's nib is by far the best, IMHO. A much classier pen than the other two. The nib is narrower than the others, though, so if you like a medium, get a broad. They are quite short pens unposted - am sure you will find measurements in the Review section!

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

The Pilot retractable and Bamboo are both less than a hundred pounds as well, I think.

The Bamboo's £150 at Cult Pens, but I dunno if that's the cheapest option.

My mistake: I thought it was less than that.

Well 100 pound is about USD 200.

I would get for one of those:

  4. Montblanc 34
  5. Sheaffer PFM
  6. Montblanc 14
  7. Montblanc 22
  8. Montblanc 24
  9. Pilot Fermo
  10. Monte Rosa
  11. Namiki Falcon

I love my Carene. You could purchase a really nice one from Lewertowski for £100. I love the heft of this pen -- it just feels right in my hands.

Of course, you could also venture into the Vintage side of Waterman. You could easily get quite a few vintage Waterman pens on Ebay for £100.

Even though the Waterman Gods will smite me for this, you might also consider a Pilot Vanishing point or a Namiki Falcon. Both great pens from what I've heard.

I now have to go sacrifice some ink for my blasphemy.

As for Sailor Sapporo, there seems to be a mixed opinion about the nib and so would like more opinion about it.

Huh! Oh, the opinions as to whether people like the nibs may be mixed. The description of Sailor nibs is consistent though - smooth and rigid. I like it on a fine point - it feels precise and technical. It would be great for math. Personally I don't like the Sailor feel on the medium point - it's *too* smooth for me - but others love it.

The decision between the Sailor and pelikan m600 was really difficult so I ended up ordering both of them. Should recieve them soon. Will report back about them...

I believe that's the standard FPN solution.

How much does a NOS Rotring 600 go for at the moment?

The OP doesn't want a heavy pen, so I expect that one is out, but...

I've seen them from $100 to $290, depending on state and bling (gold nib, etc) fairly recently. I picked up my 600 Lava BB NOS for around $80 half a year ago or so.

Another vote for a Lamy 2000. An absolutely superb pen. Also count me as one who was not impressed with at least my copy of the Sailor Sapporo and it's nib (medium in my case). Judging by my 3 copies of the Lamy 2000 and my single Sapporo I would take the Lamy 2000 over the Sapporo any day. Another good option is the Pelikan M200 or M400. Not sure how much the Pelikan M400 sells for in the UK.

Sincerely,

Hany.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
