It's my first review on FPN I hope you enjoy it ...

History (small)

Matador's story comes from far behind, in the late nineteenth century in Wuppertal-Elberfeld (Germany), Adolf Siebert and Ewald Loewen established a small factory in writing articles primarily focused on achieving low-cost products, but with the hard competition focused its business into the high-quality fountain pen to try to match the big German manufacturers of the era, such as Montblanc and Pelikan, other German companies such as Soennecken did the same.

It is suspected that the company led the Matador "competence" to extremes that today would call "industrial espionage" hence the great similarity Montblanc find some models of the time, even found models with original Matador Montblanc.

Description

This model is made of ebonite black color with a size of 12.2 cm closed and an unladen weight of 16.3 g. The first thing worth noting is its classic line and fully appropriate to the era in which it was manufactured between 1930-1940.

In his cap we can see perfectly thermal etching the model name "MATADOR EXPRESS. Your clip is a clear identity of the firm at this time and finished with a golden arrow to try to feign a higher quality in their materials. We also found a ring with small geometric prints on the bottom of the cap.

At the end of the pen has recorded the number "814" that identifies the model, this was a "battle" for the general public. We see the number next to the cylinder "crumbs" that allows the operating system by loading into the plunger body.

NIB

Nib is made of steel and is the number # 3, which has recorded the name of the signature and the "M" that identifies it. This time the nib is a flexible and oblique stub.

Conclusion

A good fountain pen, sure that many miles of writing is his body, Matador, one of those firms that failed to climb the "podium" of the winners of his era, but the standard of its success carried it thousands and thousands of users quiet and possibly each of them imagined that he was using a Montblanc...

Matadors are very nice and uncommon pens, reliable and they have smooth nibs too.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Very nice and classical elegant pen. So when did you say production stopped for these pens? Do you use it much?

Gracias!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
