Inks similar to Parker Washable Blue & Quink BB

Hi Guys,

1) For a blue ink, I always used Waterman Florida Blue. I liked it until I got Parker Washable Blue cartridges for my Duofold, and realized the Florida Blue has some purple and is more intense. I love the Washable blue cartridges, but wonder if something else, equally pure light blue, might be available in bottles? Any ideas? I don't do well with either Private Reserve or Noodler's; I prefer unpigmented (i.e., dye-based) inks such as Waterman, Parker, Pelikan, Diamine, Herbin, Lamy, Omas, Aurora.

2) In my classic pens, I like blue-black; it reminds me of being a kid in the 50s. I am quite happy with Quink BB. Yes, I know it has some green, but that is what I want: teal, defined by Webster's as medium to dark greenish blue. I saw a recent post suggesting that Quink BB has changed color - so what might be a close match? I've used Sailor BB, but it is way too black for my taste. Any suggestions? Again, Private Reserve and Noodlers don't work well for me.

Thanks for the help,

Herbin's Bleu Nuit is almost identical to a mid-60s Quink washable blue-- but that's loads darker than the current washable blue. You might investigate their site, though. Their inks are a little given to feathering on lesser papers, but the colours are delightful.

I'm at a loss on a replacement for Quink BB. It may well be my thread you mention referring to the colour change-- it may be a single example of a bad bottle, so don't abandon hope yet. There are apparently some replacement bottles in the mail, and I should be able to give an update to all in the coming week. I was just going through some files at work, and the BB from last year has held its colour quite nicely, so with luck the alternative for Quink will be more Quink.

De Artramentis Saphirblau is almost identical to Quink Washable Blue. Aurora Blue, Diamine Sapphire and J Herbin Eclat de Saphir are similar in some ways, but not exact.

Thanks, and I'll wait to hear your description of the replacement Quink BB.

Having become disenchanted with my Florida Blue, I tried mixing a few drops with first Aurora black then Pelikan brilliant brown. The latter gave the shading I like, so I mixed up the whole bottle 5 parts Florida Blue to 1 part Brilliant Brown. It does not have that teal look, but it is the sort of BB many people like. Definately a keeper.

Thanks for the information, but who sells Artramentis ink? Never heard of it. I have heard that Diamine China Blue is pale with lots of shading.

You'll have to order it direct from De Atramentis or Stylus in Canada imports it. I'm not sure on their policy for shipment to the US.
