Green ink recommendation

Mr Rob

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for some recommendations for a green ink. I plan to use it in rotation with PR Lake Placid Blue for a bit of variety. I want something that is medium on the lightness/darkness scale and has a bit of a "pop," but isn't overwhelmingly bright. From my research, I'm thinking about Noodler's Gruene Cactus, and would be interested in the experiences of those that have used it. I'm also happy to entertain other possibilities as well. I'll primarily be using it in a Lamy Al-Star with a fine nib.

Thanks!

I like Noodler's Gruene Cactus quite well. I haven't done much searching around for green inks so I don't know what-all inks will end up on my list.

I buy four samples at a time of a wide range of inks from The Pear Tree Pen Co, - four samples for $4.99.

Right now, I'm waiting for 16 samples of brown inks from various manufacturers to arrive in the mail. It's a lot of fun to be able to try so many inks. Plus, I love the tiny little bottles!

I had Noodler's Gruene Cactus, J Herbin's Lierre Sauvage, Herbin's Vert Pre, and Diamine Jade in my last group. I've tried each of them and find the Vert Pre and Jade too light for my current tastes. The first two, however, are fairly similar to my eyes at this point. They're dark enough without losing freshness, and they stand out on the page. Now to get over thinking green ink is a junior high school girl's fad! :meow:

Diamine Ultra Green, and Iroshizuku Shinroku - the first is GREEN - the second is more sedately nearly teal.

Each day is the start of the rest of your life!

Make it count!!!

I love the color of Noodler's Gruene Cactus and did a review of it, because I thought such a great color deserved a review, even though I had a lefty smearing problem with it.

Now I use Diamine Kelly Green, which I also did a review of.

Both of the inks above, IMO, fit the description of being medium greens with a bit of a "pop" and neither are overwhelmingly bright.

Best, Ann

I prefer a darker green, and have found PR Ebony Green most satisfactory. Should have gotten the big bottle...

Does not always write loving messages.

Does not always foot up columns correctly.

Does not always sign big checks.

Both are lovely greens, and your reviews always outstanding, Ms. Finley.

I'd second the Iroshizuku shin-ryoku. PERFECT greenish green!

I will not say the Day is done,
Nor bid the Stars farewell.

I love Gruene Cactus, but I think flowing from the pen you plan to use it might be a bit too bright/light for you. In my drier pens I have always preferred Hunter Green.

A green I like is a mixture of 4:1 = Noodler's Standard Green : Noodler's Verdun. It's green, all right, and it has a permanent component to it.

On a sacred quest for the perfect blue ink mixture!

Thanks for all the suggestions, now it's off to Pear Tree Pens for some samples. I hadn't even considered the Diamine inks for some strange reason, but Woodland Green and Kelly Green look great.

Noodler's Forest Green is nice, but might be darker than you're looking for.

I have a bottle of American Eel Grüne Cactus. It flows nicely, but does take awhile to dry (dependent on paper, obviously). It's very vibrant and has a good amount of what could be considered "pop" -- think of that green plastic grass they use to fill Easter baskets. Mine seems more vibrant than Ann's scan looks on my computer.

Edited to add information about UV permanence if that matters to you: I've had it on a piece of paper in my window since 17 April and it's weathered very well with UV light. There seem to be blotches in the swatch, but altogether, it's done very well. All of the J. Herbin inks on the paper (Bleu Nuit, PdL, and EdS) are severely faded.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
