Phidon Pens...

HenryLouis

Recommended Posts

My parents are taking me to Cambridge, Ontario tomorrow, and I know that there is Phidon pens there... What do they have? What should I buy when I go there? Are the prices still at a premium like in toronto? (ie. Vanishing point = $210 CAD + tax in Toronto)

Maybe I'll just buy a couple notebooks because I need a new journal.

Their pen prices are pretty much the standard bricks and mortar price. The inks pricing is quite good. Check to see if they have any of the Visconti left in the old glass bottles. They had a few left a week ago.

I did notice that the Rhodia prices were quite good but best of all the owners are fabulous.

So what pens do they have there? I'll probably pick up some ink.

They had Marlens, Viscontis, Duponts I believe. Among others.

Sorry I wasn't really there for pens as I had just come from the pen meeting. Mostly I was there to get some ink.

Henry,

Krandall here. I have to ask you: are there not a lot of (good) pen shops in Toronto? It seems like you have a lot of trouble getting some things. Or am I just reading into your topics? If there are any things you can't get that I could send you, I'm happy to do so.

Phone calls last just minutes, emails get deleted, but letters live forever.

There are 2 good pen stores in Toronto, but the rest are department store displays. The only thing I have to wait a bit on is the Noodler's shipment, because only one store carries it in all of Toronto, and the only ink he has left is Baystate Blue. And the next shipment keeps getting delayed... and delayed. So I hope at phidon I can get some nice stuff..

The two (well there's actually three, but two are of the same company) are the two B. Sleuth and Statesman stores in the First Canadian place/The Exchange tower. The other one is Laywines. As for customer service, both are excellent. Theres the essense du papier in the sears near the yonge/dundas square

Yeah, if you go to one, ask the person there where the other store is... They are practically in the same building. You just walk across the hallway, and then there's the other store!!!

That sounds almost silly! Do the different store specialize in different things? I know the one I went into is practically a monument to Richemont.

There's one with a smoke shop in it, and one that's full of pens and it's a monument to Montblanc.

lol. I don't like to go there as much as I like to go to Laywines. The store owners akil and Murtaza are nicer than the ones at laywines, but the staff are snobs... and it seems everytime I go downtown the owners arent there... and the prices are better at laywines... PR for 15 at S&S, and at Laywines PR is 13.5

I have had good experiences with both Laywines and Sleuth and Statesman, I am too wondering what's taking so long with the Noodlers order. There is yet another store at Yonge and Queen on the Southeast kitty corner to the Eaton centre inside the lobby of an office town, I think their name is the Ultimate Gift Shop.

I met the owners of Phidon in Cambridge last year at the Toronto Pen Show and I have to find my way out there at some point.

Yeah, I keep calling in, and I keep being told to call back in 2 weeks. I saw their current stock. A few bottles of Plains of abraham, some highlighter inks, and a heck of a lot of BSB.

Hmn... That's near the bay, isn't it?
