Edison's new protoype

Brian at Edison pens had sent me an email with some shots of a prototype he was working on. I was enthralled with the design slightly reminiscent of a Wahl.

I also had seen Glenn’s Glenmont and loved the red caps. So I called Brian. We decided on a Tortoise with Parker Orange accents. I’ll let you decide if you recognize the Tortoise stock.

 

It arrive today so here goes.

 

 

Shipping - 10/10 – The pen arrived wrapped in a blue cloth encased in a plastic tube as all of Brians pen arrive. Well cushioned and protected. When I unwrapped the pen, the color offset were just what I wanted. Being able to see the stock on the web cam before start of project helps in envisioning the final product….But every one of the pens I have received are so much better in real life.

 

Fit/Finish – 10/10 –The fit and finish of this pen is what I have become to expect. Pictures do not depict the way this pen is put together or feel in the hand. The cap posts well and the balance is great weather posted or not posted, but I am not a cap poster

 

This a c/c fills well so after that ............

 

Nib Performance- 10/10 – I ordered the upgraded steel nib, two tone, ground to a CI .9 I asked that it be groud to the crisp side. The nib is slightly toothy but not to the point of detracting from writing. This easily could become a everyday writer which is remarkable as Crisp Italics are a bit more work with the writing hand. The line variation is excellent. A crisp Italic line with a cursive writeabilty. Who could ask for anything more?

 

 

Overall Impressions of this pen -30/30 – I guess this is the first review of this pen. He has not decided on a name yet, but line up and get yours it is a pure joy.

 

Note: I have put up a picture of the 5 edison’s I own with a 1950 flighter for comparison sake.

I am still waiting for Brian to get in the celluloid from American Art Plastic before I order my next pen.

I have one of these coming, and I chose the same clip as the one on yours -- based on photos of your pen. And the color for me was inspired by Glenn's Herald.

 

On Brian's website he is using a different clip for the yet to be named prototype.

 

This is supposed to be more slender than "normal" for Brian's pens, and also has a tapered transition towards the section.

 

Mine arrives next week!

 

I'm curious for those of you with multiple Edison pens, if any of you have both a steel nib and a gold nib and how they compare.

My glenmont is the only one with a gold nib.... I really like his steels

That's what I was thinking as well. The pen looks great but reminds me of another pen.

I just re-inked my Yellowstone Herald with Swishers Midnight Black.

 

Just perfect writing.

I like the grooves cut into woodgrain ebonite Herald! Happily lifted from Conkin's Duragraph and Endura- same color and placement in my woodgrain ebonite Enduras.

 

It'd be great to get a flat top with those! I love the way they look on an Endura, sets off the color in the materials used.
