Favorite Low Maintenance Inks?

What are your favorite low maintenance inks? My Definition of low maintenance:

1. Does not clog pen.

2. Does not stain pen.

3. Does not need frequent flushing.

4. Washable from clothes. May need Amodex or other ink stain remover but you should be able to rescue your clothes if stained; or better yet, using plain water.

5. Generally not fussy.

6. Fairly fast drying.

7. Tolerant of a wide range of papers including poor quality papers, and does not feather easily.

Of course in addition to being low maintenance you have to like the ink for it's color, flow and other properties.

I'll start: My favorites currently are Aurora Black and Aurora Blue.

Runners up: Pelikan Brilliant Black, Waterman Florida Blue, J. Herbin Eclat de Saphir and Sheaffer Skrip Blue.

So what are you favorites?

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Hany.

Just a few observations after further use of some of the inks and one small clothing accident:

Aurora blue, while having decent flow, is certainly a far drier ink than Aurora Black and Waterman Florida Blue. This has knocked it down a couple of notches. I do love it's color though.

Pelikan Brilliant Black is quite permanent on clothes. I love the ink and continue to use it but I could not remove it even using Amodex.

Waterman Florida Blue is an absolutely superb and well behaved ink.

So what are you favorite low maintenance inks?

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Hany.

Low maintenance inks:

Parker Quink Washable blue, (nice 'shade', a huge invitation to keep on writing with any pen on any paper, so it's a real pity that it tends to fade)

Parker Quink Black, (my favorite low maintenance ink)

These are 2 of my favorites.

As a confirmed ink addict, let me add my proverbial two cents:

For ease of use and clean up, Waterman Florida Blue and Lamy Blue are hard to beat.

For the way it makes your pen sing, I adore Aurora Black, Sailor Blue, Pilot Blue/Black, and PR Tanzanite.

For general use, all Waterman, Lamy, Aurora, Sailor, and Pilot inks I have found to be superb.

Do or do not, there is no try. . .

Hi,

Focusing on low-maintenance/least problematic...Richard Binder's website covers this topic, and we know how many pens he fixes every day, so, the general conclusion is to use Waterman or Diamine. Your thoughts, everyone....Thanks.

Pelikan Blue-Black and Shaeffer Skrip Blue are my most trouble free inks, but I still use a lot of different ones. I just find these two to be good looking and completely trouble free. Opinions of others around here will be all over the lot on these, though.

Quink Permanent Blue - A no nonsense ink that jus works. I like the colour too.

Also, I agree with sailor kenshin that Pelikan brilliant black is permanent on cotton clothes. I haven't tested this myself, but the Pelikan website mentions that it sticks well to cotton clothes and classify it as "Cannot/ can barely be removed". It's quite waterproof too, it loses some colour, but is very readable afterwards.

Note: The website mentions it as easily removed from most other fabrics.

Anything by Waterman. I have used all of them, and they remain my favorite inks. I'm particularly fond of Richard Binder's "Blurple" mix -- probably my favorite ink at the moment (although Havana Brown runs a very close second!). I have other inks: Private Reserve, Noodler's, J. Herbin, etc., but I almost always go back to Waterman.

I started with Waterman FB for the low maintenance aspect but soon dropped it for the too purplish hue. I've switched to PR electric DC blue as my blue. I've got a few other PR inks that I also am working with. I mix their Sherwood green and Spearmint green 1:1 to get the hue I prefer. I also just got Orange Crush to check out as a UT Longhorns orange reflector and it comes fairly close. I'll give it to my daughter who graduated from UT in a copper SJ I have. For me it will primarily be elec DC blue for work/business purposes and green mix for journaling/everyday usage.

Sheaffer Skrip -- hands down.

Camel is also problem free, but difficult to find.

My favourite low maintenance inks are:

Skrip permanent royal blue, (1939-45 vintage)

J. Herbin, particularly Bleu nuit and the reds

Pilot BB

In my experience, you can't really count on being able to remove ink from clothing. Maybe the washable blues will come out 100%, but i wouldn't want to try it with any of my really nice white shirts.

Early I'd said that Sheaffer's Peacock Blue was my most trouble free pen. I'd just like to add Herbin Eclat de Saphir and Visconti Blue to that number. Great problem free inks.

Speaking of trouble-free inks, WHERE do you buy Waterman online? I'm having a tough time finding a reliable and well-known dealer who actually has any in stock.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

www.theinkflow.com has Waterman inks, ships quickly, and has fair pricing. I got my Florida Blue from them.

I buy my Waterman Inks from Executive Essentials (www.executiveessentials.com). I live close to their store, so I just pick it up in person. Paradise Pen's also stocks the ink. Both charge retail.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
