Largest capacity fountain pen

Has anyone done a serious study to find out which using pen (not one of the GIANT freaks made for demos--a commonly avalable fountain pen) holds the most ink?

I'm guessing it would have to be a piston filler.

Anyone?

I recently read that the Visconti Power Filler holds 3.5ml, but the Wality 69L, an ED filler, is advertised to hold 4.5ml. That's the most I've ever seen, though others may know of something that holds more.

Neither piston nor eyedropper. This reservoir method has been used by many novelists.

Whilst I feel that Doug's suggestion wins hands down :D

I always thought that the old Parker Vacs held a ton of ink, nearly as much as an eyedropper if the filler was working correctly.

Probably one of the Danitrio Japanese ED models. The Densho, which is far from the largest, holds around 3.7 ml.

Mr. Mottishaw & Co. have a handy-dandy comparison chart (non-exhaustive list ofcourse):

My Stipula Etruria convertible piston holds an unbelievable amount of ink -- seems like at least 4 times what my Pelikan 400's do! And yes, even more than my Visconti Wall Street LE with the dual chamber power filler. I can't imagine something other than an eyedropper holding more ... and I gots lotso pens!

Sorry about the Budweiser helmet reservoir method I posted above... On a more serious note, it might be newly released Conway Stewart's aptly named Great Exhibition Pen. It's an 8 inch long eyedropper that they claim holds as much as 8 cartridges. Taking the average of the two ink cartridges on the Nibs.com measurements table, I calculate the capacity of this giant at around 12ml. (By way of comparison, the Namiki VP converter weighs in at 0.9ml and the 1920 Waterman eyedropper 4.7ml.)

But not to go on. Here's a picture of it hovering mystically over my desktop:

No, of course I'm lying -- I swiped the picture from Mary Burke's Conway Stewart page where you can read the rest.

But at $2,500+, it's a bit much. I may have to make do with the Budweiser Revervoir system after all.

Hi,

0.9 Ml is actually quite good. That is the ink capacity of a Pelikan M1000. I generally regard the Level as the best-designed large capacity pen since it has a valve to protect it from blotting because of thermal expansion.

Aloha Dillon. The Nibs.com pen measures page shows the M1000 at 2.2 ml. It may be a difference in the method of measuring that accounts for the discrepancy, but relatively speaking, the big M1000 gets more than twice the noodle between refueling than the Namiki converter.

Hi,

Well, Pelikan did change their pen a bit just recently, so, sadly, it holds less ink now (About the same as an M300). If you get an older Pelikan M1000, you are in luck.

My Fat Black Sheaffer Vac. Valiant seems to hold a good amount, but I still want to get one of those Wality 69L's. Even their piston 52's hold a good amount and I like using them.

How can you tell when you're out of invisible ink?

The three pens with the most capacity, from my limite experience:

1. Danitrio Ban-ei: Eyedropper.

2. Danitrio Densho: Eyedropper.

3. Tibaldi Iride: Vacuum filler (or something similar).

You ink these pens, and they just keep writing for days on end, it seems. I use them when I'm writing a first draft.

New Olip Jumbo pen:

About 20 ml of ink. Eyedropper with safety valve.

And that is not the biggest pen you can get.

Cheers,

How about one of the larger sized Edisons in resin used as an eyedropper? Otherwise the Guider Jumbo (but it is a waaaaaay oversized pen).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
