Pen Repair DVD?

Rick Sparks

Recommended Posts

I need more visual help than I think I'll get from books (though I have Da Book and I'm trying to order the one by those two chaps from England) and I came across a YouTube video by a guy named Justin Rank. Does anybody have any opinion as to whether his DVD "Fountain Pen Repair" is a good investment? Other recommendations? Thanks.

I haven't heard of that one, but there's a double DVD set by Dennis Lively on pen repair is very good. Though it doesn't cover everything, I learned a ton from it. I'm looking right now to see where you can locate it. Figured I'd post this in case you can find it before I do.

Justin Rank is the guy who did the production work on Lively's DVD set.

Dave, I dislike to seem negative, but I've seen the Lively DVDs. I found them to be incomplete and seriously wrong in many places.

I went to Justin Rank's website and the DVD's he's selling are the two by Dennis Lively. However, when you click on either one of them on Rank's site you get taken to what's supposedly the current auction listing on eBay. But eBay says no such seller ID exists. And a search for "Vintage Fountain Pen Repair" gets a zero result. So I'm back to square one on this and hope someone knows of a decent DVD for a beginner in restoring fountain pens.

Well, I'm certainly not to going to challenge you on anything related to pen repair. :)

I guess what I found helpful was having a visual rather than just a repair manual (though I have them too). But I agree he should have covered a lot more.

Blessings,

Dave

Hi,

I am sure I saw some DVDs or sale on UK ebay over the past few weeks I think by Jim Marhall and Arthur Twydle I think by Ian Williamson at Cathedral Pens.

Might be worth dropping Ian an email.

I just received my copy of Mssrs. Oldfield and Laurance's book and it's so loaded with good clear information I'm going to get started replacing some sacs, then try replacing a j-bar and lever. I'll keep my eye open for a copy of their DVD too. Thanks for all the replies.
