The last part of the image was cut.

I used Lamy Linea cp1 (Fine) for Florida, Pelikan Future (Medium) for Sapphire and Cross Century II (Medium) for the mix

I like that color. It looks like a very nice medium blue to me. It is the color that I always think blueberry juice should look like.

Great mix. I too felt that Diamine Florida was a bit lighter than scans lead me to believe, though I love the tone. My current "go to" blue is 2/3 Diamine Florida Blue and 1/3 DC SS Blue (from PR, of course) it mixes well and is a shade darker than your mix, which by my eye is still a touch lighter than medium. It is my BSB substitute, though not a perfect one as far as "pop" is concerned (no suprise).

Nice looking mix, Tony. Try diluting the Sapphire Blue with some water (start with a 50:50 mix first) and it might please you more. I dilute PR DCSS blue this way and like how it comes out (not to mention it extends the ink bottle...).

Your mix looks to me like Diamine Royal Blue, which, despite its name, has no purple whatsoever.

I was about to order PR DC SS.

I know it is dark but does it have any purple? or a dark blue?

Second, I know it is an old question, but is it safe to mix two different brands?

I know it is an old question, but is it safe to mix two different brands?

The definitive answer is: it depends.

Some inks will mix well and others will not. Some inks will chemically react with each other and produce a precipitate or a gel that will clog the fountain pen. Others will mix and not react at all. I'd suggest looking around this section and see what people have warned about.

I know from personal experience that Waterman Florida Blue and Noodler's Gulf Stream Blue will react after a couple of days and clog a pen. Many other inks will mix with Gulf Stream Blue. So it's an ink by ink determination as to whether they'll mix nicely or not.

If you have a combination you don't see discussed here on FPN you might just mix a tiny amount of the inks together, leave them in some bottle or something that won't allow the water to dry the mixture out, and see what's going on with it after a week or so.

On a sacred quest for the perfect blue ink mixture!
