Pilot Iroshizuku Yamo Budo

I got this ink this morning all the way from Singapore courtesy of Aesthetic Bay. Ink cost approx £15 and postage was free, this is the best deal I have seen it for.

Before I even opened the package the impression is of a high quality product. The silver coloured cardboard box is very high quality and the card is nice and thick and stiff. Opening it up reveals a very sturdy slab of glass for the bottle. The bottom of the bottle has a small indentation to maximse ink filling capability when the ink starts to wane.

I filled a couple of pens (Safari Broad nib and a Reform 1745) to try it out. For some reason in the broader nib it seems pinker to me - don'y know whay that should be.

Overall this is definitely a keeper for me, shading excellent, dry time moderate to good and no feathering or bleedthrough evident on either Rhodia or Clairfontaine paper.

A close second to MB Violet for me but defintely an impressive ink.

Note that for some reason or other MB Violet appears a little darker than normal to me - not totally sure why as the Yamo Budo scan looks very close to the original.

Hello,

I got this ink as a gift from a FPN friend a few month ago

and I like it very much. Your observation, that a wet broad nib

makes the ink look more purple is right.

With a fine nib it looks "burgundy", like some people say.

With my MB OBB it looks really light "purplish" (a bit like Diamine Claret).

It's a best behaving, "go to" ink for me.

Thanks for your review!

Best,

Anna

thanks for the review. I've been looking at this ink for a while but I haven't been sure if I should get it as I have Watermans Purple and the Dumas Tulipe to use. MMM, makes decision hard................

As for the cost, this is a yes and no for me. I've been looking at these inks for a while on ebay where it was $15 USD per bottle plus $16 USD postage, and an additional $7 per bottle postage beyond the first bottle.

This price above, with the free postage is far cheaper for one bottle, but (and this is my word of caution) do your math for each additional bottle you order. Up to 3 bottles will be cheaper from Aesthetic Bay, 4 or more it will be cheaper on fleabay.

EDIT: since posting this Aesthetic Bay has increased thier prices to $31 per bottle

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
