Depending on final retail markdowns and whether or not that clip moves or retracts, I might just end up with one. If it is a new and interesting, single-hand operated retractable, I might get one and ship it off to a nibmeister to get it tiny.

It doesn't float my boat but yes, it shows how differently things can be done. Maybe it will encourage other manufacturers to dare to be different and maybe one of those different things will be just what I want, so I say it's good just for being. At the end of the day if anyone was going to make a pen that looked like this it had to be the Germans, bless 'em. :roflmho:

Lamy pens are in their own category, and that's where they should stay. They have no business trying to create the illusion that this in any way is a "high end" pen by charging $300. Their pens are not that kind of quality and I find it outrageous, if these claims are true, that they're going to charge $300 for this pen. I'm not trying to be abrasive to all the Lamy fans out there, as I am obviously not one, but I just needed to add that comment.

That's pretty funny!

First, any company that makes more than one pen has a "high end" pen. What's "high" for one company may be "low" for another but for that company, its still the top end.

Second, you seem to be saying that a company can never try to make a product that is of higher quality or higher value than they have ever made in the past.

So VW should go back to making deathtrap inexpensive Beetle-Bugs like they made from the 1940's through the 1970's and not try to high performance convertibles like the Eos!

I guess you've decided Lamy's market niche and they just have to stay there!

And that's funny.

...wut? Have you handled something like a Persona?

I'm also curious as to what you would consider quality, if you don't think the 2000 is high-quality.

....

Saintsimon raises a point with the VP's list price in Europe -- I wasn't aware it was that high, but it probably has something to do with duties and VAT.

The VAT and duties are nowhere high enough to account for the price difference between North America and Europe. The Pilot folks simply positioned the VP/Capless higher in Europe than in NA. The Capless is their top pen in Europe (no Custom series available), so they tried to squeeze more bucks from the stupid Europeans - but they forgot about the Internet, the possibility of international shopping. I'll never buy a VP/Capless locally.

Hmmm...I'm a little disappointed. I generally like Lamys, but I feel like this is missing something. I think it has to do with the nib. It seems like they could have been a little more creative. I do agree with Deirdre in regards to shape though. I'll hold full judgment until I can try it in the store.

My wife and I were at the Joon pen expo in Manhattan yesterday. The Lamy rep was there with the Dialogue 3. My wife saw it an instantly loved it (this is her first real fountain pen purchase)...she ordered it....I couldn't NOT have one.....so I preordered one too.

Fascinating. This implies that they are rather catchy in person.

I like it and most likely will buy it; it is nice to see Lamy offering a newly designed special fountain pen.

But I'm also curious if it will be comfortable to use.

So what are your thoughts on the workings and how does the mechanism operate and feel? I would be very interested in feedback from someone who has handled it!

The model that I was using was a PRE PRODUCTION MODEL do not judge your purchase on what I am about to say. The mechanism seemed a little stiff to me but fairly easy to operate. I would like to see it a little more loose (I think the ones we get WILL be more loose). It had a decent amount of heft. This is not a fountain pen for someone who likes very light pens. The M nib was smooth and didn't drag on any of the several papers I tried. I'm not sure if it was the ink, or if it was the pen, but I was impressed with how little it actually did drag versus other brands and pens I tried on the same paper. I think in time it will be an interesting conversation piece.

Thanks for the info, I like the idea of some heft to it. Is the mechanism twist or slide?

Right, so that confirms my guess that this pen is a twist-up C/C filler.

I'm looking forward to trying one out.

It looks like it requires two hands to work the mechanism...

I now want a pen that requires three or more hands to work the mechanism, I could use it as an excuse to meet new and interesting people.

expected late july. $300.

Is this figure extrapolated from the EUR 190 European list price? If so, there's a good chance the US pricing would be closer to USD 200.

Of course, Australia being the Lucky Country™, this would equate to around AUD 800

They didn't happen to give you a date when you can expect your pens to come in when you pre-ordered, did they? I really want to try one out.

Today's exchange rate EUR > USD means that EUR 190 = USD 263.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
