I was in FPH the other day for my refill-run, and was told they have a bunch of D3s on pre-order (with roughly half already spoken for). Had I been able to handle one ahead of time, and liked it, I'd have taken a spot in the queue, but I'll take my chances and wait till they actually arrive.

Played with the D2 roller again before leaving...hmm, told myself "no more rollers", but that pen is still so sweet. Must. Wait. For. D3. (I keep muttering...)

My Price is about $25-55.00 cheaper than most with free shipping. I also think the $300.00 price was unrealistic especially in this economy. I am taking pre-orders as the pen still is not in stock and I do have a small supply reserved.

I for one like it and will most likely purchase one as soon as they are out. I say bravo to Lamy , it will go nicely with my Lamy 2000 and my old style Rotring 600. Guess that you can see the minimalist trend in my pens. I am for the most part an anti bling guy.

All the best,

Don't have the dimensions but have tried one. It is a large size pen granted but it isn't at all fat and cumbersome, in fact it is great to write with. The weight is perfect and the nib is definately up to Lamy's standard. The twist action mechanism is quite cool, I will be getting one.

Pretty sure I will purchase one, from what I see I like so much better than what we have to choose from as far as a retractable nib so far. Sure wish that one of you would hurry up and get one and post a review of one, would be nice to actually hold one but as the only B&M store within 150 miles of me closed up last year.

I just test-drove one at my local pen shop, as the Lamy representative was there. I wasn't interested in the previous Dialogs, but she insisted I try it. I opened it and was impressed by its smooth mechanism. "Oh, cool!" I exclaimed.

The weight was a bit heavier than expected, but not too much to induce fatigue; just enough to let the writer know it's built with quality. It was also very comfortable to grasp, in my opinion.

I wrote with it, and it was extremely smooth; the medium nib glided with finesse, and left a line width a tad bit thinner than other Lamy mediums.

All in all, it was a great pen to use, and I even considered ordering one right then and there. I say "was" and "considered" because once I asked for the price, I gave her back the pen.

True, it was also kind of fat, and I don't think it'll be a daily writer, but it would still be a nice addition to any pen aficionado's collection.

I also tried this today since it was "Lamy Day" at Century Pens (Rome, were you there?). It was lighter than I expected, but I don't like the 2-handed mechanism. If I want to use 2 hands, I'll buy 2 Vanishing Points for the same money.

Not worth $300 for sure.

In terms of capacity, it takes a regular Lamy cartridge/convertor, so the capacity would be roughly that of any other Lamy pen.

Hi FPN friends,

Can someone please post a picture of it in writing position? I am trying to get an idea of how fat it is, and how it behaves in terms of gripping.

Any further opinion about it's comfort for everyday use and reliability of the mechanism? Can it swap nibs like other Lamy models?

The minimalistic design looks great, but it seems a little overpriced to me.

Thank you,

Fabio

post-36408-126745842657.jpgThe Dialog 3 is 17/32" in diameter (a shade over 1/2"). I find it a bit uncomfortable to use over an extended period of time. The mechanism is fantastic!

Thank you very much for the picture and impressions Morgun. I am intrigued by the sample text: it seems almost like made with an italic nib. I didn't know Lamy had this type of tip....

Fabio,

You're correct ... as far as I know, Lamy does not make a italic tip. I reground it to my own liking....

Lamy makes italic nibs for the Joy pens, and they fit on Safaris (et. al), so if the dialog 3 takes Safari nibs (?), you can get a (steel) italic for it.

i just bought my D3, i've been using it for just one hour and i found issues so far :

there's no way to know how much remaining ink you have in the barrel. (unless you remove the converter)

the pen is heavy and your hand can get tired quickly.

also the mechanism is not that smooth..

still love the pen, i'll keep writing and informing., overall,-....this pen is unique, awesome

yes, you are right, i own a safary also, the nib would fit, but if you look closely to the picture, you can see the golden nib wich is the original with the pen, i guess the writing is from other pen, unless the writer did not use the pen properly.

I just picked up one of these at Bromfield in Boston ($240.00). I have wanted one since I saw them online, but wanted to see it in person first. I was very impressed with it! I love the looks of it, clean and simple. Feels great in the hand, the twist mechanism is very smooth and I have no issues operating it with one hand. It is a substantial pen, both in weight and girth (but that's what I prefer anyway). I love the two tone nib and it writes smooth as silk. I prefer to write with an extra fine nib and I find that that this produces a much broader line than any EF that I have used before so it is forcing me to adjust my strokes to compensate, but that is the only issue I have with this pen. It also seems to attract the eyes of people as well.

All in all, this is a unique and practical pen that is on it's way to replacing my VP as a daily writer.
