Waterman South Sea Blue

I am looking for another turquoise-y blue and Waterman South Sea Blue looks really nice. I have never used Waterman ink before so I would appreciate any thoughts about the brand and the color if you have used this ink.

Thanks!

I'd say it's my favorite blue ink. It's darker than Peacock Blue, but is still a nice turquoise color. The vintage variety shades quite nicely as well.

I've got a blog!

I really like Waterman inks. I have a few colors and they all perform consistently well.

South seas is a new favorite of mine, a bright turquoise that leans toward green. So, so nice in any sized nib.

It is one of my favourite inks. I use it with my Carène, and I filled my 51 with it just yesterday. It suits my Moleskine very well. Nice combination with Moleskine, with practically all pens.

I've only got a small amount of the vintage stuff, but it's one of my favorite colors. Prior to finding it, I'd tried P.R. Naples Blue (another nice color, a bit darker IIRC) and Pelikan Turquoise (too light for me). It's a cheerful shade for me, and I enjoyed scribbling with it during our protracted grey winter.

The vintage ink has a noticeable scent from the biocide used; I like it, but others may not. I assume the modern version is less pungent.

I haven't used it in a while, needed the color for a special project a while back. It worked very well in several pens that I used it with. Very pleased with it after choosing it as a lucky guess over several others based on the review above.

Great color :) It does look "sea blue" when used with a brush and paper :)

This is the color I use the most. It reminds me of the color of shallow tropical water as you're looking down from above. Very pleasing, and a great departure from mundane blues.

Waterman is also my goto ink. It works very well with any nib, any width, on any pen. I wish other brands were as solid as Waterman.

I will just add that South Sea Blue is one of my favorite "primer" inks. This ink will flow well from just about anything. So if I have a pen that is new and just does not want to flow ink well, I fill it with SSB. If the pen does not flow SSB, it needs abjusting.

SSB is one of my favorite inks too - I recommend you get some. It has a nice, light blue color, it flows very nicely and Waterman inks are known not to mess up pens - they are some of the best on the market. Of course, SSB is not at all waterproof - something to keep in mind if that's an issue.

Using right now:

Jinhao 9019 "F" nib running Birmingham Firebox

Pilot Justus "M" nib running Diamine Oxblood

Montegrappa Elmo 02 "F" nib running Carmel Sea Blue

Sailor Cylint "F" nib running Dominant Industry Seaweed

Fabulous! Thanks for all of these replies! Lighter than PR Naples Blue - which I have but it's too dark at times for me. I'll head off to buy some !

Highly recommended! The color looks fabulous on every type and shade of paper I have tried, and the lubrication of the ink is really nice.

I have had no problems with any pen I have used it in; really looks great with a wet B or BB nib!

I have never used Waterman ink before

I guess with the proliferation of ink-makers the past several years this statement should not have produced the sort of shock to my system that it did.

Using fountain pens without the experience of Waterman inks is kind of like eating dry cereal without milk (or worse yet, putting orange juice on it!).

I hope you enjoy the South Sea Blue, it is a pretty color, and a nice introduction to Waterman's justifiable reputation as a safe and satisfying ink choice.

This is also one one of my favourite inks. It is towards a green shade of turquoise and very restful on the eyes.

With regard to Waterman inks, they are THE best IMO with regard to behaviour, flow characteristics etc. Also, they produce what I would describe as being the 'benchmark' colours in blue, brown, turquoise etc.

It's definitely time for you to invest in some; I can't believe you haven't already!

FYI

The colour on my monitor of the scan is very representative of the ink, as I know it.

I have never tried waterman ink either. Which is worth trying? I don't need SSB because I have Skrip Peacock Blue.

... Which is worth trying?

Simple answer: All.

Long answer: Not the Black (too grey), nor Havanna Brown which I find too red (but lots of other people have it as a benchmark brown).
