Any pen shops in Toronto?

Good Evening, Toronto is a very walkable city, and has an excellent subway, trolley, and bus system. Driving however is convenient for the outlying suburbs, and Hotels in Toronto itself can be pricey, and parking is extra, and while not incredibly expensive, is not cheap. Thus, if you are arriving by automobile you may want to stay on the outskirts and take the Metro in to the City. This will save you from both paying to park at your hotel, and from paying to park almost every where you drive in Toronto.

I second that -- when I last traveled to Toronto with my kids we stayed at the Sandalwood Suites hotel out by Trudeau Airport -- you can get a full suite (bedroom w/separate living area and fold out couch, plus kitchenette) -- for about $99, which includes free breakfast and free parking. Lots of families stay there for this reason. You can then take the GO train into downtown and from there take the subway. You can also buy a daily pass at the GO train station, or at the subway stations, that is very affordable.

Gasoline and Diesel Fuel are significantly higher than in the States, and are sold by the Liter. The Imperial Gallon has disappeared into history.

This is not true. If you convert liters into gallons and then convert CAN dollars into US dollars, the prices are about the same (as of today, roughly $2.50 US per gallon in southern Ontario, which is about what you would pay in Buffalo, for example). Gas prices are actually higher in Quebec than Ontario.

It is true for Petrol (Gasoline). I have done the research. Petrol is selling from a low of $.899 per liter to a high of $.969 per Liter currently in Toronto. At the current exchange rate of .865 Us dollars per 1 Canadian dollar, this comes to $.779 US per Liter at the lowest priced station, one near the Airport in Mississauga. Converted to Gallons, US (4 quarts per gallon, not the old Canadian Imperial 5 quarts per gallon) this comes to $2.949 per US gallon. Current price in the Buffalo area is selling for a low of $2.09 per gallon US to a high of $2.49 per gallon US. Thus the price difference is from a low of $.45 per gallon US to a high of $.85 per gallon US, if you purchase Petrol at its cheapest in the Toronto area.

And for Diesel Fuel, though the prices are much closer, as it is $2.14 to $2.59 dollars US in Buffalo, while it is a low of $.759 per liter to a high of $.809 per liter. This produces a price at a low of $2.87 per gallon for diesel. Thus the price difference for Diesel is only from a low of $.28 to a high of $.73 per gallon US, if you purchased Diesel at its cheapest in the Toronto area.

If you want to get a drink in Toronto, go to the bar in the Hilton on Richmond Street, and if you are lucky you will have Yul as your bartender. One of the nicest and most interesting people you will ever find.

For a really nice dinner:

Not cheap, but well worth the price.

And as others said, the CN Tower is fun...and if you have time and like baseball Blue Jays games are fun, and they are doing well this year....easy enough to get tickets too.

The Toronto Zoo and Botanical Gardens are also really nice as well.

Not sure I would characterize that as "significantly" higher. That should be reserved for a place like Norway, where you will spend more than $6US per gallon.

I wouldn't know because I don't stay in hotels in my own city. As some people said before, go to the east to stay in a hotel. Preferably near the subway. The TTC will take you right to the heart of toronto!

Coming to Toronto? I can't believe I missed this post! I think you would feel most at home in State and Sleuthman: they are practically a monument to Montblanc and Montegrappa.

A good hotel would probably be the Fairmont Royal York. Haven't stayed there before, but I'm quite sure it would be convenient for you, being right beside Union Station. Fun stuff to do would be to go to the ROM (as mentioned), the AGO, St. Lawrence Market, and the CN Tower (now the 2nd tallest free standing building  ). Can't really think of anything else (I personally think Toronto's really boring!)

Hope you have fun!

If you want to be where the action is and the shopping, stay at a hotel up around Bloor St. or in Yorkville, e.g. The Four Seasons. Unfortunately even there Toronto's evening/night street life is not a patch on Montreal's.

IC Toronto is a perfectly fine hotel, in line with most other ICs. Stay there from time to time when in town, and have had no particular complaints on my visits.
