What does purple ink say about you?

I could not agree more it is bad taste to talk purple and not talk Tanzanite. If all ink was Tanzanite, just think what a beautiful world we will live in. Caran d'Ache Storm is also nice.

I once wrote in this really nice purple ink, but unfortunately, the pen shop i was buy it from packed up and left overnight.

It was a deep violet colour, darker than lilac, but lighter than voilet.

:crybaby:

So sad I can't find it anymore ~

I haven't started exploring purple inks yet, but I'd love to have a very, very deep, dark purple--just shy of black--with no chalky qualities.

The only purple ink I can think of is Noodler's Nightshade or PR Ebony Purple (review here).

Thanks for this! Looking at reviews, PR Ebony Purple might just be it.

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

Lewis Carroll's signature ink was purple. I think Charles Dickens used purple ink from time to time. I have always thought of it as a creative color. I love purple ink in as many shades as I can get it, but I use purple ink because I like purple. I like Pelikan and MB Viloet, and Herbin Vilolette Pensee and Poussiere de Lune.

I like to make myself notes and lists using purple ink because it is easier to read. Because of my poor eyesight, I don't like to wear bifocals, instead I wear separate glasses for near or distance vision. This works out well except when I need to read a grocery list at the store or a phone message while I still have my driving glasses on. Bright purple ink, like PR Plum or Waterman Violet, are my favorites for this purpose.

With my new infatuation with waterproof inks I may try Violet Vote; it doesn't appear to be as chalky as some other colors.

ETA: Strike the comment about Violet Vote after reading a review. It is too blue for me, so unless I can intensify the color with some red, it's out for my purposes.

As a child I was always fascinated when my mother wrote with her purple

Nifty pen(ballpoint, unfortunately) with the three gold rings around the barrel.

It wrote in a sort of,medium shade of purple. I had forgotten all about purple

ink until I started getting involved in pen collecting. Though I don't have any

purple ink as of yet,I do like Noodler's Purple Martin.

I tend to like muted shades of purple, such as the purple color (not the light

purple one)that the King of Pens comes in.

I love purple too!

I use Herbin Violette pensee, and Shaeffer Skrip purple. But I also like a blue with a touch of purple in it (e.g. Diamine Sapphire Blue). I'll have to find some Tanzanite - sounds interesting (is it Noodlers?).

Purple is supposed to signify sprituality; but for me it's just a little different, and a little fun.

Give me purple, violet, ink

Give me time, to sit and think

Give me purple , fill my pen

Help my Nib feel free again

I love purple ink and always have at least one pen inked with this color.

My two favorites are PR Ebony Purple and Diamine Imperial Purple.

La Reine Mauve, fallen in love with this stuff! Not sure what it says about me, but I am into all of the non-black and blues as much as possible! Purple is one of those making a statement colors but not outlandish and can go almost anywhere as can many of the medium and dark greens; Green is the color of dinero...the last time I looked!

Purple is one of my favourite colours of ink and I always have one pen filled with Diamine Imperial Purple. I use it occasionally for letter writing, though mainly for writing down ideas and first drafts of articles and stories.

It is a colour that has happy connotations for me because it is the colour used by my old university (actually Royal Purple) so it reminds me of my days as a student. That seems to be a common factor here, but I was wondering what else it suggests. I am no colour psychologist but to me the colour purple suggests relaxation, meditation, deep thought, even pleasure. I no longer use this colour at work, only at home. I have enough "serious" inks to use at work, like blue and black.

I wondered if anyone else here had something to say about it?

Very interesting thread thank you

As someone who frequently mentioned that I pick ink colors to suit my moods I realize that I don't have specific meaning to colors rather general feeling.

I can relate to the same general feeling you have toward purple, it might be why I frequently use Violet/Purple to write poetry :happyberet:

What inks mean to me:

Black: Business/elegance

Blue: Fun

Orange: Pain (associated w/ outlining hundreds of trillions of pages)

Red: "Mwhahaha... someone just lost a letter grade"

Green: Peaceful

Purple: sumptuous indulgence

Brown: this is "thinking ink"; reminds me of ancient manuscripts

It is really fascinating to see the various shades of color interpretation

Black: Elegance, Severity

Blue: Business, Peaceful

Orange: Fun, Playful

Red: Pain or Grief

Green: Joy, Happiness

Purple: Mucephei said it best "meditation, deep thought, even pleasure"

Brown: Calm, Thinking, rich elegance

Interestingly someone just sent me some handouts by a woman who does color healing, is some kind of medical intuitive or such. I'm going to paste the info on purple below as well as her name. If anyone wants the entire handout, PM me.

It says that you have purple ink and use it, either because you like it and want to share, or that you hate it and are trying to use it up (being too mean to give or pour it away)

I like La Reine Mauve's colour and bulletproof-ness(good for postcards); also, Diamine Imp Purple and FPN Tulipe Noire.....although Purple, Mauve and Violet are different, I like 'em all!

If you make people think they're thinking, they'll love you; But if you really make them think, they'll hate you.

I like purple too and have the Pelikan Violet and the Iroshizuku Yama Budo. Am looking for a well behaved purple that's doesn't feather and is a little drier and more water resistant. Also prefer a darkish rather than pale shade that is more blue (Pelikan Violet) than red (Yama Budo). Any recommendations? TIA!

Have you tried MB Violet?

I haven't, but I read a review that said it feathers.

It says I'm in a serious ( Storm Caran d'Ache + fine nib of my Parker lady Duofold)) , electrical (PR Tanzanite) , joyful (J. Herbin Poussière de Lune in Sailor's calligraphic fp) , melancolic but enjoying it in some sort of way (Styl'Honoré Poudre d'Iris ) ... Mood.

Purple's my favorite color but I couldn't really say why. I like using purple inks because they feel a little less boring than blue or black, but I have some purples that are dark enough (like PR Ebony Purple) to pass for black except in direct comparison.

I like dark purple, but I'm not sure what situations I'd use it in.

My wife loves her PR Plum; uses it to take notes at work.

Hello,

in catholic liturgy it's the color for the Passion, the beginning of Lent...

Grief, depression...?

No -

I like it because it's the color of some of my favourite flowers - columbines for example.

But, knowing about liturgy, I use it for condolence letters.

Regards,

Anna

Can't say I've really noticed that about MB Violet. I write primarily on decent-quality-or-better paper, though, since work ditched the horrible Corporate Express steno pads - haven't tried it on lower-quality paper.

Curious, Anna, I do the same. While Waterman Purple is a daily, joyful color used everyday, I use Diamine Damsom for condolence letters. The color brings many other sensations, though....the violettes pensées one of my aunts always planted to place the petals in between the sheets of my books asking with a soft smile to think of her when I saw them ( they still bring her to my mind each time I see one), the passion of the Easter processionals and the tunics of the brotherhoods, the face of a woman named "Violeta"....

Thanks for the responses. Glad I'm not the only fan of purple ink! It's interesting to see how people use it. Keep 'em coming.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
