Miquelrius Flexible Notebook bleedthrough results with some ink/pen combinations

Recommended Posts

I bought a Miquelrius Flexible notebook recently. It was on sale and I thought I had a good deal. There were many good comments about Miquelrius, so perhaps I had high hopes for it.

I was disappointed to find the 70gr paper bleeding through with the ink/pen combination I used -Pelikan Black in a Safari Broad nib. I prefer to write on both sides of the paper, so I felt let down. My Rhodia did not have this problem.

Being the engineer I am, I set out (not very scientifically, if I may add) to try different combinations of ink and pen in my collection to see if there might be a way to alleviate this. The results of my tests are in the attached scans. My Medium and Broad nibs are pretty much unusable on this paper. They lay down too much ink which then bleeds to the other side of the paper. The ones acceptable to me are the Fine and Extra Fine nibs with the "drier" inks such as Pelikan Black and Platinum Blue Black.

My assessment is subjective of course, so I am posting my scans here. You can make up your own mind about what works for you. I am also interested to hear if you have an ink/pen combination that doesn't bleedthrough on the same Miquelrius Flexible Notebook paper.

i agree with eilu...

with a fine to medium fine nib and a drier ink or a drier writing pen it is excellent value for money...it has a nice feedback from the paper by writing..i only use mine for random notes so dont use my favourite pens in it anyway.

it's great value if you stick to the drier pens :) mind you i have a very light touch and tend to use standard quink washable blue in this with my fine nib no brand pen.

This is excellent paper, design and value. 70g and a broad, wet nib will show through in almost any paper. Get the 90g and enjoy life.
