fake Dunhill AD2000 on ebay?

monochrome

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm a newby to fountain pens but looking to buy my first very nice one. Somehow i fell in love with the Dunhill AD2000 carbon fibre, but that one is long sold out. On ebay i have seen some versions of the Dunhill AD2000 in silver that i can't find on any reference website. So that made me wonder... is this a fake one? Most of them seem to be shipped from Taiwan... another thing that makes me suspicious.

I hope you can help me get an answer that can lead to a good choice...

Here is a photo of the ebay auction.

The Dunhill was made in this pattern in a palladium silver finish, and has been discontinued for some time now. I had two of them a couple of years ago, that I eventually sold. If the picture that you show is from the auction, I would consider it to be legitimate. The packaging is the same as found with my pens, as is the tag. Some were sold in the jewelery department at T.J. Maxx late in 2006, early 2007. I haven't seen them since then.

The nibs are palladium plated 14K gold, and come with the Namiki pump type of converter. Very attractive and well made pens, with a good balance.

You always have to worry if there are fakes out there.

However, the dunhill pictured has been selling for around £100 or $150 for some time now, so the chances are, if you've got a seller with a half decent rating, it'll be original.

Bren

Hello there. I'm a new member.

I was brought a Dunhill ad2000 Carbon Fibre Pen from a well known jewelers in Southampton brand new.

It has a stamped warranty from the jewellers and all packaging.

I have only used the pen once to make sure that it workes ok.

I'm looking to sell it, because I'm left handed so I struggle fountain pens. What sort of value to you yhink it is, and where is the best place to sell it.

Any Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Richard

I have one silver AD2000 FP as the on in the photo. Really good writer. Smooth 18K nib made by Pilot and the pen comes with a black con-70 style converter (like those ones come with Namiki pens)that has great ink capacity.

For some reason I do not know, the market value of this particular model has dropped rapidly from its list price. It is very easy to get one at around USD120. I paid even lower for mine. I bet this one might be the one of the best fountain pens you can get in this price range.

There are some AD2000 fakes kicking around - or at least I have seen ones in gold and they didn't make a complete gold one! It could be a real one that someone plated...

Mint in-the-box it will probably bring $5-600. maybe $650 if you're lucky. Lightly used ones have sold for mid-upper $400's

I've been following a lot of ebay auctions lately, of exact the pen i showed in the first post. The pens all come from Thaiwan and every week at least one is sold by one or two different dealers. All shipping from Taiwan. Now call me paranoia... but this seems VERY ODD.

Any experiences of members buying one of these pens?

Cheers,

Frank
