Are there Japanese piston fillers?

I like piston fillers and I like Japanese Fine nibs

Is there a Japanese piston filler?

What's it like and what is the capacity and reliability etc?

I do not know if the Pilot Custom 823 qualifies. It is listed as a plunger-vac style filler, which to me means about the same.

Here is an article from stylophilesonline:

Piston-fill or plunger-fill?

Piston-fill usually refers to the system used in pens like those in the Pelikan Souveran and Traditional series.

Custom 823 would be a good example of a plunger-fill.

Which one is more durable, the plunger type (like in a Pilot 823) or the piston system (like in the Pelikans).

Sailor is supposedly planning a piston-filler for regular production, but the release date keeps getting pushed back. I saw some piston-filled Japanese pens where the celluloid was made by the company, but it had a Bock or Schmidt nib. Not sure if that qualifies as a Japanese piston-filler...

I have Sailor 95th Anniversary pen Realo that is piston filler. The quality of the piston filling system seems the same as those of Montblanc or Pelikan. It is interesting that I can see the ink window even when the pen capped. Sailor is a lover of pleasure.I posted the review of the pen in Japanese(sorry). I will post the review of it in this FPN in English in the near future.I know Platinum 70th Anniversary pens are also piston filler. Those are very rare pens but you can see the review here (sorry, only in Japanese).According to the review, the ink or water will gush out of the pen when the spindle nut is turned, very elaborate! ,it says.

Nice review, and thanks for the link. I look forward to the English version. I'm not entirely sure what Sailor were getting at with "REliance And LOcus". I think they might have latched onto a less than usual meaning of the words.

It must be nice to be able to go to the Sailor Pen clinics and get your pen adjusted to your liking.

One question: is「尾栓回転」= "Piston filler" ? I'm guessing it is...

尾栓 means tail knob, 回転 means turn, that is , after all piston filler.

I heard New Sailor's piston filler is named " Profit Realo" . More precise info(price, picture, nib etc) is supposed to be released very soon.

The piston is more durable because it doesn't build up a lot of pressure, which can cause seal failure.

I really hope Sailor makes Professional Gear versions of their piston-filler, and especially a KOP Pro Gear version. Does anyone know if there are plans for that in the works?

They just announced that it is going to produce PF version of Sailor Profit. I do not know English name for it.

The retail price of this pen in Japan is 31,500 yen.

That almost makes me regret getting my Pilot Custom 823. I got it for the same retail price in Japan, and its nib is much drier than the Sailor nib.

Wait, where did Sailor announce that the piston-filled Profit will be 31,500 yen? I just looked on their site, and that's the price of their Profit right now. I can't imagine a piston-filled version would cost the same.

Tsujigiri, you can get your nib tuned and the flow adjusted. The Pilot #10 and #15 nibs are excellent. Of course, the finer the nib, the harder it is to get a wetter flow, but it can be done.

Good point, I had forgotten about that. From what I hear, it's relatively easy to add flow, but reducing flow is difficult...

To my surprise, today I hear from a fountain lover that the piston-filling system of REALO is fragile. He knew at least 3 REALOs were broken. And Sailor releases Profit REALO after improving the system thoroughly. That is the reason of delay.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
