CS Doctors Pen

Defacto

Recommended Posts

Just this week I received my Conway Stewart Doctors Pen.

What a beauty it is!

Being in the medical field makes it even more special to me.

I just love the engraving!

Ofcourse I'm already keeping my eye on the new doctors and lawyers pens.... :headsmack:

Below are a few snapshots I made of this little beauty.

Sorry for the poor quality, I'm not that good at taking pictures of my pens.

Very cool pen. Did I read somewhere that there are only 100 of those in existence?

Also, isn't that the caduceus?

50 lever fillers, 50 c/c. And no, strictly speaking that is not the caduceus but the staff Hermes carried as messenger to the gods. But as Kevin C has explained in another thread, he thought the single-snake-no wings caduceus a bit meagre on this wide cap band so he went for the double-snake-with wings version. Most people will recognize the staff as a doctors' emblem anyway, as Hermes is out and doctors are, well, in. Besides, Hermes used to have his wings on his shoes.

Thanks guys.

It is marked as 200 made of them on the cap of mine...

I really love the engraving and I think it suits the pen very well.

I see have to correct myself. The original design, that by Kevin Cheng, came in 25 lever fillers and 25 c/c. A description is given in Stylophiles (www.stylophilesonline.com, September/October 2005). The "repeat" issue by CS is obviously larger. Sorry for my misleading first post.

This is the UK edition (the US one had silver trim IIRC) and was only produced in c/c. Originally 200 pens were planned (hence the serial number being of the form xx/200), but only 100 were produced.

I have one of these and an Onoto Doctor's Pen. However I prefer the mainly white metal nibs that CS did so have swapped the nib on mine!

Nice pen Nicolet , congratulations !

Just pay attention not screwing the cap very tight.

I just repaired one the these pens were the cap lip broke off , most probably by over-tightening , or falling on the floor

The cap lip is part of a separate sleeve which is glued in the cap, allowing the cap ring can be installed before gluing the cap lip sleeve in the cap. .

Drawback being the wall thickness of the sleeve part which in glued in the cap is only 0.7 mm.

Hard rubber being rather brittle, the thin wall can not withstand high tension forces, so be careful !

I have one of Kevin Chang's (WineDoc) "Medical Sciences" LE. The hardware is gold. It is a C/C pen.

I do like the one in the OP a lot. Do you know on which CS model it was based?

Hi David,

It's a 100 series pen in black acrylic with deep chevron pattern chasing. (Note: US pens were ebonite, IIRC, but CS wasn't using that material in the period the pens were produced).

Coincidentally we had one in for service last week (photos here and here). I was reminded what lovely pens they are.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
