Noodler's Zhivago

Zhivago looks significantly different in every single one of my pens. It's pretty cool.

 

I completely agree with this observation. I had to try several different pens to find a nice match. I use it exclusively in a rather wet Lamy 2000 and get a deep, dark green. I goes down on the paper as a true black and as it dries the green begins to show. Great ink!

Is there an equivalent of Noodler's Zhivago, but red instead of green?

 

Noodler's Red Black comes to mind. VERY dark red with overtones of black. Great shading too

How does this compare to Aircorp blue/black? I find Aircorp to be quite green when dry

I use my Zhivago on a Pelikan M600 M and it looks like a very dark green. It might not be that obvious for people not used to inks, but next to a Noodler Black (with a Lamy 2000 M- the green is easy to see.

 

As far as I remember (I stopped using it mainly secondary to smearing) the blue-black looked like a very dark blue, didn't see too much green in it.

The more I used it, the more I liked it. It's slight olive cast became like a secret between me and the ink.

 

That's exactly how I feel about it, too! Black enough to conform to convention in my workplace, but secretly green!

on my pens and paper, I find them quite different - when flipping through my journals I can tell which entry has been written with Aircorp and which with Zhivago. To my eye, Aircorp has a teal blue cast, while Zhivago is olive greenish.

 

I like them both, with a preference for Aircorp for colour. But I keep Zhivago anyway because it behaves better on dodgy paper compared to Aircorp.

Anyone tried diluting Zhivago to get a slightly greener tinge? I love the subtleness but under some light its almost too subtle!

that's a nice color. my pr ebony-green sometimes looks like that too. i think this is much more black though, which is nice.

I have Zhivago in my Safari now with the EF nib. Your pics are an exact match. Its sooo dark on the green spectrum. As stated, it is often mistaken for black by the uninitiated. I purchased only a few mls from Peartree pens in a sample pack. Actually glad I did. Its really too dark for my particular taste.

Limesally: please define "dodgy paper"--like cheap paper?? Notebook paper?? I used both Aircorp BB and Zhivago and found they worked well on all types' paper but did not have such paper as notebook, recycled, etc. stuff--only used Rhodia and fairly good laser-type blank paper on which I had printed graph-type lines

For me, this appears a dark olive color. I just got this ink and love the color and smooth flow. It does take a little more time than usual to dry, though.

 

Still, a good ink and great review!

It appears as a dark olive for me, too. I'll try to remember to do a scan for y'all tomorrow of what I get.
