Miquelrius notebooks are great! I like the DCK and Kukuxumusu books. They are sold under a few other names in the US. Barnes & Noble usually carries them in my neck of the woods.

ETA: Since you mention math, you might also check out Ampad Gold-Fibre planning pads. I picked up one that has ivory paper. It has a spiral top, though, not on the side.

I certainly second Miquel Ríus. Fabulous paper for fp and ink in a great format for students/note taking purposes.

I always drop by here to see what people think of a pen I am thinking of buying. I saw this and thought I would give back a bit also.

I went searching and came up with a Wenger Carina 3 ring binder. I found it at Staples but they don’t show it online. It zips and has a pouch on the outside also. Inside there is - the 3 ring binder of course - a holder for a notebook pad - pen holder for 2 pens - a zipped pouch for extras - a full pouch for papers or whatever. This way I keep papers I want to keep in the binder which I can tab for sections. I can still doodle and toss that later. I can keep cartridges zipped and even more pens.

Hey, the thing is pretty nice for $30. Look it up online, they are the original Swiss Army Knife company.

And – while I am at it - http://www.xezo.com/search_category.asp?ca...g%20Instruments These are some nice pens and still not as pricy as they could be for limited edition.

I'm a student too, so I understand the need to want good FP-friendly notebooks ^_^ Here are my humble two cents. From least to most expensive:

Staples Bagasse Sugarcane Paper is the cheapest option. It's really good FP paper that's eco-friendly too! The only beef I have with it is that if you buy the pads (8 pads for like $6 is pretty flippin' economical), and are eco-conscious, it's hard to write on the other side. They also sell it in composition and spiral notebooks though, so no worries there. Even though it's not nearly as smooth as, say, Clairefontaine, it's still way smoother than normal notebook paper, and it doesn't bleed through -- though it does shade, which I like because I'm odd like that. But I'm too cheap to purchase several notebooks when I can get 8 pads for like a dollar or two more. (There are 8 pads, but each pad has only about half as much paper as a normal pad ought. So, it's really more like 4 pads. Which is still really good, yes?) This are ideal for students, as they are readily accessible and relatively chea

Apica is Japanese. They're not spiral, which admittedly bugs me, there's only about 60% as much paper as in regular notebooks. BUT, no matter what the class and how intensive the notes, I find that I don't use up my entire 100-pg notebook anyway. The paper itself is excellent quality, it's lightweight and easy to carry around (think a thin, flexible composition notebook), and they are cheap and a very good value when purchased from Asian Food Grocer. Let me put it this way: To buy two 60-pg Apicas (thus totaling 120 pages) would cost about $4; one 5-Star filled 100 pages with poor quality paper is $5. You do the math ;)

Red n Black. My god I love these. However....is it just me, or does ink take longer to dry on Red n Black notebooks?? I like Red n Blacks because they look professional yet are very functional, with a strap to hold it closed and an inside pocket, plus information on the inside cover like a mini map of the world with time zones, multiplication, measurements, and other nifty references for students. Can be bought at Rite Aid and Target and Staples....anywhere, really. Paper is thick and excellent quality.

Clairefontaine....I have no experience with Rhodia, but I totally support Clairefontaine for their eco-friendly practices :D Plus, the paper is freaking AMAZING. Thick and smooth as glass. Too bad it's ridiculously expensive, and not at all practical for students (we're talking....$9 for a 100 pg notebook). Alas.

Hope that helped! :bunny01:

Rhodia spiral bound.

Are there high quality notebooks that function the same as my plain old spiral notebooks? I want to get the ultimate writing experience when I'm taking notes in math :D

For general writing [read: scribbling], I've been using a Mead Cambridge spiral bound notebook. It's been sitting around for a few years (the calendars in front are 2004 to 2007), but it has a plastic cover, thick hardboard back, and light buff colored pages, which I find reduce glare. The pages are micro-perforated but shown no signs of separation on their own. There has not been any bleed-through or feathering with a fairly wet ink (Waterman Blue Black) in a wider nib.

As it happens, I know they can be used successfully for math homework. Okay, it was 7th grade algebra, but that's beside the point. :)

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

The Apica 6A10 is a nice notebook. 100 sheets, recycled paper and very fountain pen friendly. Only comes in lined pages though.

I also really like these. National brand lab notebooks are nice, too.

this past year i have been using notebooks from the 'hot chocolate' and 'graphic in nature' collections by jacquline mcfee. they are spiral notebooks that i bought from walmart... staples might have them too, but im not positive. they are 80 sheets/160 pages, and i find they take fountain pen ink really well, no bleeding or feathering! the covers are usually really colourful, they're aimed at kids, but if that doesn't bother you then they're good. i'm not sure how expensive they are but they're probably cheaper than clairefontaines...

Rhodia offers spiral bound notebooks.

If you want spiral notebooks, go with the Clairfontaine. I prefer Rhodia paper, but if you must have that wire in the middle, you're stuck with Clairfontaine.

But if you're asking about notebooks for taking notes (what sort of notes?) i would suggest Rhodia & Clairfontaine stapled or bound books, or Japanese daigaku nohto. I have whole bookshelves full of these.

Hi gyasko,

where can we find them i.e Rhodia & Clairfontaine notebooks? Had little luck searching on Ebay, any directions would be great. Thanks.

Walmart carries a Norcom brand that if the paper is from Brazil, you have a great source of cheap notebooks. Both the spiral bound and the composition notebooks are good for everyday use.
