Joe, that is a beautiful pen, and beautiful photos of it. I was wondering how you handled the flash, until I saw you shot outdoors. I guess you relied on natural light then and didn't have to worry about flash reflections. What's the background you used for the photos? Is it a booklet that came with the pen or an atlas? Whatever, it fits the pen perfectly. I bet it's as amazing to write with as it is to look at.

Hi Treecat,

It was an overcast day when I shot these photo's so no flash required, very even distribution of light, just shot a little over exposed to make it lighter. The background is a large book called the Atlas Major of 1665 by Joan Blaeu. The pamphlets that came with the Pope are really about Julius and rather plain. I thought the Atlas was a better contrast. Thanks Navy, it is the most beautiful pen I own and probably will own unless MAVA (Mac) sells me some of his Danitrio's!

Just saw your review, Joe! GREAT SHOTS and a SPECTACULAR pen! First I've ever seen it. Now I know why you were going goo goo gagga over this pen.

Hi R.ticle One,

Thanks for your comment. I would not feel comfortable taking this to a meeting or the grocery store. To me it is more like a work of art that you can admire and if it has functionality even better. I have already written a few notes to some friends today and find the flow to be exceptional, the nib is very smooth with just the right flex for me.

What ink did you end up selecting, Joe?

I would take any of your pens, they are all exceptional - You have great taste my friend! The one I have been eying lately is your Nakaya Piccolo in Aka-tamenuri, that pen is just stunning. It's between that and the Danitrio Makado flattop at the moment. I may need to unload a few more pens to get it but I need to make up my mind first. Maybe I should get both? :roflmho:

I used the Aurora Black on the Pope. Another FPN member had recommended this ink after I sold her one of my other MB's, she said it worked wonders for her on that pen so I tried it. Very smooth indeed and great flow. This Pope has a F nib, which I prefer but I still like good flow and don't like a scratchy writer. The ink sure does help but I have not tried any other ink yet, I have heard a lot about MB Racing Green but can't find it in any of my local stores. Thanks for the interest and thanks for all your review posts, you have a great collection and I always like reading your reviews.
