Conway Stewart Green

I have wanted to do a review of this ink for some time, but I have been plagued by laziness. Since March is the green month (for me anyway) I had most of my pens loaded with one green or another, and this gave me the opportunity for a review. Unfortunately my scan is not entirely accurate. I can never seem to get blue-greens right. In the picture, the Conway Stewart Green looks more like Verdun Green. I PhotoShopped it the best I could, but the inks should be brighter, more brilliant... Anyway, enough of the excuses. This is a great ink that I use more and more. I recommend it, as it has excellent properties: fairly saturated color and wonderful flow. Nice and wet. Let me know if you want a sample vial. Thanks for looking

CS Green looks a lot like Levenger Gemstone Green.

How well does CS Green perform on "bad" paper?

The handwriting's not that bad either.

 

I've always been curious about the CS Green, ever since I got my copy of Greg Clark's Ink guide - it looks very dark in my copy though, so that must have been a one-off case, I guess.

 

Looks like this is just a tad too light for me.

Marina, this is a very good example of something I said in a different thread recently (I think the poll about ink flow): when you buy a bottle of ink, you're really buying as many different inks as you have differently-writing pens... The top and bottom look like completely different colors! I've also said elsewhere that this is frustrating about FPs, but it really makes FPs quite fun (figuring out what pen and ink combos -- don't forget paper! -- make writing look the most attractive to your eyes)...

Thanks for the review! I really like the look of CS Green in the flex nib. In the other nibs it looks a bit washed out. Looks like a great ink for wet writers. Thanks for the Diamine Emerald sample also - really like that one.

Hi Marina,

 

I think you did a good job of getting the color accurate on the Conway Stewart green. The Pelikan 400 & Wearever samples look just as it does in my notebook. When I got mine, I got Pelikan 4001 green at the same time, and they looked almost identical. I noticed that the bottles are shaped the same, too, with the CS green having a bottle just like the smaller 30 ml Pelikan bottle. Can't help but wonder about the relationship. I know Pelikan makes the Cross ink.

 

For some reason your Diamine Emerald sample looks a lot prettier than mine!! Instead of leaning toward yellow like yours does, mine is a grey-green (mine is a sample from a trade). Glad to see your sample of it--gives me a renewed appreciation of the color.

CS Green written with Pelikan looks a lot like Diamine Steel Blue. I like Emerald colour that you have sent me. Thanks.

Melnicki, you are so right that the inks do different things in different pens. Marina, Karen, DrJPM and others have helped me see that. The Private Reserve DC Super Show I had never got to a light color out of my pens and it was frustrating. I think now that I need to aim lighter than the actual shade I want on the paper, or so it seems.

 

I love the look of PR Spearmint Green that came on a writing sample. I never can get purple to look right to me, althought Waterman Purple comes closest. Diamine Emerald looks like a regular green color to me and Verdum Green seems classy.

 

IF I like the PR Spearmint, a darker green, do I get that or need I aim a shade lighter to achieve the PR Spearmint?

Very nice review of a very GREEN green. I just got some and tried it out in an Esterbrook J and was quite pleased with it. A little too bright for my boring self to use daily, but I can't wait for Christmas time for cards!

A quick note....

Just loaded it up in a Reform Piston 1745 that can be a bit scratchy, smoothed it right out. It will be seeing use tomorrow as a Bible highlighting combination in Church.
