Noodler's Concord Grape

Deirdre

The third 1946-series ink, compatible with Baystate Blue and Cape Cod Cranberry.

Of the three colors, I think this one might be my favorite.

Is an awesome color, in the line of highly saturated, strong visual impact Noodler's color line. Very nice. When I first saw it I thought it was very close to my daily mix of W. Burple, or PR Tanzanite -both less saturated, yes- but after seeing your test with Violet Vote, I might be totally wrong.

What did you write with, a BB or a broaf stub? Looks nice. Thanks for sharing.

I have a bottle coming from Swisher's. I can't wait. Baystate Blue has quickly become my favorite ink. Based on this scan Concord Grape will give it a run for its money.

From your scan it looks very much like the baystate blue. Are they similar?

Not really. I can do a more specific comparison later, but here's this picture of Baystate Blue for now:

I always like purple inks more on the blue side. To me, this is one of them.

Thanks for the review.

Wow, very nice looking ink. And it creates the opportunity for some interesting mixing with Baystate to create some blue/indigo/violet/cobalt shades.

I received my bottle yesterday and filled up my Lamy 2000 M last night. I like this ink as much as I like BSB. It's really close to what I think of as grape. I'm happy.

It is a very grapey grape, what I think of as the classic Welch's Grape Juice color.

That said, I don't know how close it is to Welch's, but it's what it reminds me of.

How does it compare to other bluish purple inks - like Tanzanite and La Couleur Royale? I appreciate the colour saturation of the Baystate line, but it would be interesting to know how this ink compares to the other two.

Swisher had them. Greenman508 on eBay also had some. I don't know who currently has what.

Thank you very much!! And yes, it IS difficult to keep up with who has what! Ahhhhh, so many inks, so little time. LOL

I received my bottle this weekend. Wonderful grapey colour! I also noticed that...at least my bottle...is a much dryer write than BSB  That is my only concern about the Blue...its wetness. Don't get me wrong I still love it and the Baystate Grape :bunny01: So far I've tried it in my Taccia Stacatto and the Levenger Plumpster. Thanks, Nathan. A great couple of inks

  • 4 months later...

Curious as to the shading of the color. Have Apache Sunset that I love after reading reviews here, so wondering if shading is about the same using a stub nib

Nice review. Does this ink have a strong odor like BSB? My BSB had a very strong chemical smell.

I have the Concord Grape in a Wality purple ED, no smell, good flow if pen is in active use, but not much shading with this particular pen.

It is an excellent match to our New England grapes when in season. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
