Scanned image is almost dead on with my monitor.

Thanks Punch. This is going to be the ink of choice for my own Olympio I reckon. Interesting note about the colour change.

Only Blue/Black colour I prefer is Noodler's but Diamine have such a brilliant service in the UK - 48hr free postage for orders over £10 ($20-ish) I'll most probably stick with them.

Cheers,

MD

Thanks for the review, got a bottle of this a couple of weeks ago but haven't had a chance to use it yet. From the scan I think I am going to like this.

This is the most lubricating ink that I have had from Diamine to date. I also love the color which looks a bit washed out in your scan. I think it's much more intense in reality. Thanks for the review!

Depends a lot on the monitor. The scan looks dead on when viewed on my laptop. It does look a bit washed out on my monitor at work. Also depends a bit on the paper. The blue is very intense on Rhodia, not quite so on Moleskine paper.

Thanks for the review, Punch. The ink looks very similar to Montblanc blue-black. Is that correct? Any notable differences?

I just recently tried this BB. I really honestly prefer Waterman BB but this is a close second for sure.

Similar, yes. The color is probably closer to Montblanc Blue Black that any other. However, I find the Montblanc Blue Black to be slightly more dull than the Diamine. This could just be due to the flow characteristics of the pens that I have used. I probably should load one of my Pelikans up with Montblanc Blue Black and give it a write-up. Then we will know for sure. I used to use the MB ink in the Lamys a lot, but I don't use the Lamys as much these days and I don't like to leave the MB ink in them when they sit.

On my monitor this looks quite different from my Diamine BB. Yours looks very gray, but my BB is blue with no gray tints at all. In fact it reminds me of the color of denim. The strange thing, is that it goes on very purplish, but dries a nice dark blue.

It is probably my favorite all time blue ink.

That could be your monitor. This ink has no grey that I can tell (and none on the two monitors that I use). If anything, it tends toward green with some papers. I have this ink loaded in another pen today, a Kiagelu 323, and it looks quite different from the above scan. VERY dark blue with almost no green. Virtually black until it is dry. This nib is a bit narrower than the pens that I usually load with this ink. As to the purple cast that you are seeing - did you have your pen loaded with another ink before the Diamine BB? I have noticed that regardless of how well I clean my pen, the Diamine BB tends to take just a tad of the shade of whatever I had previously loaded for the fist fill or two. Do you notice this?

To those of you who have Diamine BB, may I just ask how close this color is when seen on your monitor? I know due to calibration we will see different colors, but when compared to these two scans of the same Diamine BB, which is the most accurate? If Punch's scan is the most accurate out of the 3, I am definitely going to Artbrown to get it. But the fact that these two scans look way different causes me to ahve second thoughts.

I'd say that my writing with this ink shows somewhere between the two. Certainly a bit bluer than Punch's but a tad more grey than Blueberis scan. IMHO it's a very nice colour but not as black as I'd originally hoped. A note of caution though - I believe it matters a lot with this ink what paper you use. Could be cheaper paper (as I use mostly) saps something from the colour?

Hope this may help,

Thanks so much. Now - compared to waterman BB, is it more black? I like my BB a bit on the dark side. The waterman BB scan here showed that it's almost a true blue with no hint of black. Thanks!

OK I was itching for some blueblack and got the Diamine BB. I went to artbrown and picked Diamine because Waterman looked really green.

So far I like Diamine Blueblack but my real writing sample is nothing like punch's. It is also quite green. Good shading. I will post a sample tomorrow. Also, my Diamine Royal Blue is also very different from what I saw at ArtBrown. Perhaps each batch of ink is a bit off?

Just to add another data point: my monitor also shows a lot of grey in the scan. My bottle, on the other hand, has no grey whatsoever; on white paper, it's something of a dark blue with greenish undertones.

Yes - although I kinda wished the true bottle has that nice greyish effect! My ink, if written on paper with any tint of yellow, will show a lot of green. Only on very white paper will it look really blue. But I do like the shading.

Now - for those of you that have Waterman Blue Black? Is it even more green? I like my blues (dark or like) to be as true blue as possible and I want to make sure I made the right decision in choosing the Diamine over Waterman. Waterman Blue Black looked really green at the store.

Yes, Waterman BB also has green undertones, though they show up more in drier pens, in my experience. I used to dislike the Waterman, until I put it in a wet OMAS; that's made all the difference for me. Regards,

With my Diamine BB it was more like MB's racing green under tungsten lighting. I went under flourescent lighting and it suddenly turned to a true blue black - not too far off from punch's original scan! So lighting also plays a major role here! :)

Yes, very nice. Looks like Pelikan BB on steroids.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
