Visconti Crystal

OK, finally broke down and got myself a Visconti Crystal.

I have been looking into clear demo pens for a while. I used to have a Pelikan M200 in Anthracite. It was a real demonstrator meaning that I can see everything e.g. nib/fee assembly can be seen inside the transparent section, piston mechanism, etc.

With the Crystal, it is not a true demonstrator in that sense since the section is metal.

I am not a fan of metal section but this pen is very striking.

Notice the metal converter, really cool.

My initial experiences :

1. The converter looks really nice. It is a screwed in type. Only concern is how do I get a replacement when it dies on me some 10 years later. It needs to be primed. I experienced bubbles on the initial fill up even after I rinsed it with water and dish washing liquid solution.

2. On the second fill up, it runs fine with no choking.

3. The pen is about the girth of a MB 146. Very comfortable to hold.

4. I can see that this pen needs a lot of TLC for people like me who magnifies every little ding and hairline scratches. I sought advise on how to maintain its glossy shiny acrylic. So far I am hearing Novus and polish offered by Giovanni/Tryphon.

5. Big 14kt 2-tone FINE nib is smooth.

Overall impression is I LOVE THIS PEN but I am not sure what it will look like 10, 20 years down the road e.g. yellowing, scratches, etc. So I just focus on time with it now.

Sweet! :D

You have great taste in pens, KCkc!

Enjoy the pen and don't worry what it will look like 10 years from now; I'm sure you're the kind of person who takes good care of her pens, so it will be fine..... :)

The pen rest is a Japanese chopstick rest. I found it at Marukai over here in S. Cal.

If you goto Chinese or Japanese supermarkets or stores, they always have very nice chopstick rests to pick from.

Beautiful pen! From looking at it and IIRC, the Visconti Crystal = Van Gogh Demonstrator, correct? Nice pen and thanks for the look! (Love my 2 Van Goghs, BTW).

Thanks KC! A quick search shows a huge range of chopstick rest choices. Cool. :D

And back on topic, the Crystal Visconti has the same lines as the Visconti Van Gogh. Is it very heavy? I have the VG Midi. The nib on this one looks nice. How does it write? I've had some flow issues with my Midi.

Never lie to your dog.

Can you share your issues with the Midi? :)

By the time I looked at the review the pictures were gone, so I am not sure how they were placed in the note.

But, the best way to add photos is to put them on photobucket or some other free storage site. Then, when preparing a topic, look under the fonts drop down, you will see a series of icons. Select the one that says insert images when you hover over it. After selecting the picture you want to grab, click on upload image. This brings the url into the text box. Simply copy this into the note and your pictures will stay.

Hope this helps, cause I'd love to see those pictures.
