Wow! Just received my Visconti from Pam Braun and need to log my first impressions. In a word - Elegant. And the writing experience is every bit as elegant. A smooth fine nib, right out of the box. I could not be more thrilled.

 

First impressions

 

The presentation is stunning. I felt I should be genuflecting before the pen, nestled in its satin pillow, all secured within the burgundy faux-croc case. But hey, that's not why I buy a pen. It is an excellent weight. The nib is a great design with a nice crescent breather hole. At first inking it wrote luxuriously.

Appearance and Finish

Gold plated trim, Translucent Honey Almond resin cap and barrel, 14k gold nib.

 

Excellent fit and a stunning look. A resin to rival celluloid in depth of color, with a nice translucent cast that only an acrylic can offer. The finish reminds me of my favorite cateye marbles of my youth. I am just a bit older, and my toys are getting more expensive.

 

 

 

Design/Size/Weight

Length: 5 ½ inches capped, 5 1/8 inches uncapped, just under 6 ½ posted (I do not intend to post this pen)

Weight: 1.2oz capped, .8oz uncapped

Filling System

Converter/Cartridge. As expected, except the converter has a metal piston knob, adding a touch of class.

I have 3 of these guys, 2 fines in Summertime Yellow and Blue and a med in Honey Almond. Love 'em and I never see myself getting rid of them. Mine all write smooth, one fine was adjusted by Deb Kinney to write a little wetter, but all the nibs have never been touched and remain factory. I do post my Operas, they just balance better for me like that. Just personal taste.

 

I've yet to see anyone photograph these pens to do them justice. Your photos are good but they don't don't show the depth of the colors in the Honey Almond resin. Another pen that when you see it in person it just pops. You're right, an elegant pen.

Congratulations! Beautiful pen.

I was for one, but it didn't feel as comfortable in my hand as the Van Gogh, yet the honey-almond is a beautiful resin(?). Viscontis have good nibs (apparently Bock). I like the macro of your camera and the very sharp details. Which camera are you using, if you don't mind?

Hi Sonia. I've got one, too, the summertime yellow (which is more of an orange). They are resin/acrylic indeed. My nib is nice but really broad for a medium. It should be Bock, but I am not entirely sure.

 

 

Opus104, great review on a wonderful pen! This is the only pen in the whole series that has gold trim which becomes the colors of the acrylic really well.

Great photos! The reason why this particular Opera Club looks so good is because it has gold trim. I wish Visconti used gold trim on more of their pens. All of the other variants of the Opera Club use silver trim.

I love these pens. I have nine of them, including some limited production colors. I've got them on display in my office. The Honey Almond material has apparently run out, so if you like that color get them while you can. The ballpoints are already sold out. I snapped a picture of my display, which includes the matching inkwell they're sending with the Nordic Blue.

 

I have a few limited production pieces. The black and white is available in Italy, and I've seen them in Canada, too. The Burgundy and grey swirl was a one off prototype. The dark blue with brown swirl was an LE for Fahrney's, and I bought the tortoise at Ercolessi in Milan last year. It's the same material from the Conklin Word Gauge LE.

Thanks! I'm on the lookout for the one that looks like the Honey Almond, but it's a pale green. Creme de Menthe, I guess. I don't like the color, but it would fill up that tenth slot pretty well in place of the inkwell....

Wow!! I'm not worthy....

 

That is a great collection. I'm still enamored with my new Honey Almond.

 

 

The Honey Almond is the pick of the litter, IMO! It's also the only one finished in gold trim as opposed to the silver. Warms it up a lot.

It's funny. I was about to ask whether this pen might look better with silver trim :) It feels like the gold trim may be getting lost in the honey hues. I guess I would have to see it in person.

I chose the honey almond because the gold framed the overall pen better. However, she's somewhat cumbersome to use as an everydayer. She writes very silky though and is unfussy. It's a bit of a showoff!

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
