Noodlers Nighshade and OMAS stub nib

In January I have purchaised my first pen after 10 years. I was deciding between Arco Brown and Extra 1930 and finally got Arco Brown with medium nib.

There was something wrong. Pen had difficult start, sometimes it has been skipping. I have blamed Omas ink, I have ordeed Herbin, PR and Diamine.

With PR ink pen has written well, but it has written way to wet. Ink was flowing all the way. With Herbin, flow was OK, but ink wasn't lubricating nib enough, and pen was skipping. Diamine ink was somewhere between PR and Herbin.

As it doesn't get much better with ink, I have taken look at nib and realised that nib is misaligned and faulty.

I have send pen back to Omas, and they admited that nib is not perfect and they have replaced the nib. I have asked them to put STUB nib.

Omas STUB nib is very broad. More than 1 milimeter broad. It is not schratchy at all. Variation of line is like with italics nib. With this nib I can write fast, just like with medium nib.

Your sample looks more like the wine than mine (sorry but no scan yet) which has a slightly darker shadowy character, more like dried blood. That might be due to my very free flowing VF Aurora nib.

Hi Klemenv,

Thanks for sharing once more. I love that colour ink, and the stub nib.

I'm really glad it all worked out in the end, with the Omas. And even better now you got yourself a great nib with it too!

Getting used to the stub should only take a few days, considering the way you are writing with it already!

Warm regards, Wim

Many thanks for the look at the ink and the stub! Any chance of a pic of the pen and nib just to round out the review? :D

I'm definitely liking that Nightshade - a nice deep, rich color. It's going on "the list".

This review encouraged me to buy this ink. I did, and it should be noted that in XF and F nibs this ink wont have enough contrast to show the color. On the page it looks like a light black, with barely some redish hue. Much different that when used in a broad nib.

For those who may need to know.

All the best,

Anthony

Anthony, thank you for bringing this older review forward. This ink is a possibility for me now -- thank you for the observation about nib width as well.

This is a very interesting ink. To me, it looks very much like Herbin's Poussiere de Lune. Anyone agree?

Nice ink - nicer nib! Good to see another stub convert - they add so much character to your writing - it beats me why anyone uses scrotty little fine and dull medium nibs when beauties like this are available. I'll never ever understand why some people will spend hundreds (even thousands) of £s or $s on magnificent pens but order them with dull as ditchwater medium nibs!

I just got Nightshade and put it in a Lamy Safari with EF nib and I'm loving the combination. The EF is wider than what I'd call EF, and the flow is such that the ink shades quite well on most papers.
