Out of these companies who makes today the best writer ?

Please dont put in any LE pens in your calculations.

Why did I chose these companies and not others ?

Good question I guess these are the one I know and tried or heard good things about.

Few I like but dont think they make the best writers today like Parker and sheaffers.

In any case I chose Omas.

The vote is ONLY about NEW pens!!!

If Parker had been a choice, that is where my vote would have been...from my 1927 DFJrLC to the contemporay DF Cent. including the Vacs, P51s, P21s, P45s, Vectors, and whatever the hell else Parker I have in the box, they are ALL great.

As it is, all my Waterman pens...I don't have anything older than the C/Fs to the Carenes to the Phils are reliable and that is all I ask...

Why did you choose Omas and what's their best pen with respect to their price/performance ratio. I love my pelikan 200 and my pilot vanishing point because they're good writers and they're reasonably priced. I've been curious about Omas and other Italian makes so what model is a good start? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hopefully around $100... with a piston filler... and smooth gold nib... and writes upside down laugh.gif well you can't get everything.

I haven't tried Sailor but I have has good luck with all of the other pens on your list. Omas is nice but too smooth/slippery for my tastes. Of the remaining choices, I like Pelikan the best because they are (in my experience) completely reliable at every price point.

If I could create my dream pen, I'd fit a Pelikan 600 with a Conway Stewart XF nib.

I have a Pelikan M800 and thats one sweet pen and an excellent writer but my Omas Paragon is a better writer.

The Pelikan has a better quality but the nib on the Omas is far superior.

Sheaffer, really, but if that's not an option, it must be Waterman. I love my Kultur (and generally companies that can produce good inexpensive pens).

I prefer Omas and if motivated to choose a second, would pick either Visconti or Stipula.

I feel that Omas produce the better pen for the price(even though they are expensive) and that their reputation and longevity are important to me.

Same goes with Visconti.I have and only had one small issue that was resolved quickly. And their prices are good, certainly attainable for us mortals with limited funds.

I love Sheaffer but was a bit disapointed of the Legacy.

Dont get me wrong sheaffer rocks but I feel they dont make good writers as they used too years ago.

Out of the big 3 (Parker,Sheaffer,Waterman) I feel Waterman is the only one today that really makes Ecxellent writers.

I can't vote pick a fave. 2 of my most smooth nibs are belonging to my Omas 360 and Paragon, the two other to my my 1989 söveran 800 and my 1965 MB146. I haven't tried a sailor but I am convinced that they must be extraordinary good writers.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Tough choice...

I guess I'd have to say Pelikan, with Waterman so close behind they're on either side of each other (apologies to Groucho Marx)...

Bexley should definitely be a choice - best writers in the world - legendary for their "buttery smoothness". But since they were left out (as they ALWAYS are for some reason), my second choice goes to OMAS.

I would have voted for S. T. Dupont if that had been on the list. My Vertigo-II is the one pen that I never take out of rotation, it's ALWAYS inked.

Tough one -- here how I answered this one. I own numerous pens from each of the major manufacturers, and I have excellent writers from each one also. My test was this: which manufacturer is the most consistent with quality control -- ie; which brand had more great writers "out of the box" (OTB). By far, the most consistent has been waterman, and that's how I voted. Pelikan is second in that test. However, my absolute smoothest, most fluid, and most rewarding experience comes when I write with my Omas Paragon. But that nib was a replacement, and I've not had a great OTB record with the several Omas pens that I own.

Quality is just not how high you reach, but how consistently you get there.

For me it's of the above, two choices: Pelikan and Omas. Did not vote for Omas for the "incontinency" issues mad.gif .

Pelikan is, as Omas, an inmediate starter with a very nice wet line...but Pelikan won't stain fingers.

Funny, but I also like "toothy" nibs (not scratchy) like the Montegrappa symphonies and the Marlens. smile.gif happy.gif

MB 149. The size of the pen makes it an excellent writer with my ham-fisted hands. I think my OMAS and Sailor nibs are (a bit) smoother, but the 149 in total is better for me to write with.

My Pelikan M800 is scratchy. I never would have even put it on the list, although clearly there are Pelikan enthusiasts here on the board.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
