Omas Arte Italiana Black Paragon Big Model

Hi all

 

In the beginning I was very reluctant to buy an italian foutain pen. But having tried several pens at Morastylos like the Montegrappa Extra, the Omas 360 and the Omas Emotica. I started to appreciate them. Today I went at Mora for normally buying a söveran 1000 with a medium nib but the shop had only one with a fine nib, I then saw a big paragon in the display. I asked to write with it. I bought the Omas because it was a slightly used model and priced resonnably 320€ when normally it costs 565€. (pic enclosed with the courtesy of Omas)

Now let's talk about the pen itself.

 

Apparence/finish:

An excellent finish on this pen, the pen is warm to the touch. The design resembles a twelve sided Doric column, and provide a precise grip to enhance the pleasure of writing. The Arte Italiana Collection is the perfect combination of refinement and practicality.

 

Size/Weight:

It is a pen of the same category and size than a Meisterstück149 and a Söveran 1000 but a little bit heavier than these two models. It is a very ergonomic and comfortable pen. Your hand don't feel tired even after long seance of writing.

 

Filling System:

The basic piston filling system which is known for its robustness and reliability. The omas filling system being as smooth as my 146,149 and 800 piston fillers.

 

Nib/Performance:

This is where I was greatly enthusiasmed. The nib is perfectly balanced and glides on paper. I can understand why many people are so enthusiastic about Omas nibs. The ink flow is very regular and the smoothness of the nib is first class.

 

Conclusion:

Omas made an incredible pen with the Oversized Arte Italiana Paragon. It is an artisanally made pen with so many qualities that is hard not to consider this a great present or a pen for life. It is also a way to buy something different and refined from the usual standards in the oversized pens that are the Meisterstück 149 and the Söveran 1000. For the price I paid, I can only think that I made a very good choice. I will consider Omas in my future purchases again.

I couldn't agree more. I think you got a great deal on a great pen, but I'll predict it won't be your last Omas.

I like larger pens, and this is one I do not have. As I indicated in another thread, I have yet to buy an Omas pen despite having a number of Italian made pens. Because of the size and the writing attributes of this pen, this model might be my first Omas.

I only have the old Milords and (besides the quality control issue somewhere else discussed) they are very, very light. The nibs are very, very smooth.

Omas is a brand you won't just have one pen.

I just bought a new larger model Arco. I have 9 omas pens. I think the larger new model has received a lot of very unfair criticism in the pen community, especially the Arco. It is a move forward and not a retro look. The size balance and quality speaks for itself. Great review and my 10th to the collection will likely be this very pen in white hi-tech trim with a BB nib.

I agree.The Paragon Oversized is a very fine pen.But some of us have smaller hands and the Milord is just perfect for some.And it is less expensive.

But i'm sure i will have a larger Paragon someday.
