Levenger True Writer Mini Review

I recently visited the Macy's department store in downtown Chicago. My son and I were killing time before the Chicago Bears Family Days. We walked up to the Levenger department and started to look around. A lot of really nice stuff for serious readers and writers. I was drawn to the display of fountain pens, tried a couple and was impressed. While we were looking at the "Circa" section where they sell very unique notebooks, the salesperson gave us a each a sample of the Circa Notebook. To say that we were both impressed with this system would be an understatement. Choose your cover, what kind of paper you want to use, and put it all together in this nice binder. Really nice paper to write on, and some very solid designs. Take a look here:

I really like this system. 9/10

Later, I bought one of the Lavenger True Writer fountain pens on Lavenger's ebay outlet store for only $27.95. The penj arrived in a very nice case, nothing fancy but solid. I filled it up with Private Reserve Cosmic Cobalt and began writing with it. I loved the pen, and still do today. The cap screws on securely, and the nib does not dry out if not used for a day or two. I bought the medium point nib which is steel, and it puts down avery nice, wet line. Smooth as silk, and a real joy to write with. I highly reccomend this pen for someone looking for a nice, inexpensive pen. Perfect for students. I give this pen 8/10. You can take a look at Lavengers ebay outler by clicking the link below. I have also posted pictures of the pen and paper below.

I purchased a blue marble True Writer from a fellow FPM member for about $20, and I was pleasantly surprised. I think mine is a fine, it works great with PR American Blue. If you can get one at a discount, I can highly recommend this pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
