This is a small handwritten review of a Pelikan Souverän M800 Etched Demonstrator with stub nib regrind from O3B.

You are right, BSB stains but it's great ink. Less than a second is enough to stain my hands, however I used it in this and another M800 demonstrators for more than a month, then I flushed the pens and changed ink color and now they are clean. As a daily fountain pen writer, I don't give a damn, but if you are a fountain pen collector, BE careful!

My “Old Style” M800 is a little back-heavy, they all are because of the brass connectors used instead of plastics used in the lower models, but unlike some people I like it that way and I never even notice it anymore.

The Demonstrators should be a little less back-heavy, e.g. if you look at the brass connector [the part that looks like a brass tube, above the plunger gasket, where the piston shafts comes through] you'll see it has a cutaway where you can see the spindle turning when turning the filling knob.

That's a pretty good chunk of brass cut out there, and while most of the weight is in the threaded areas of the connector it could reduce the weight enough for some to notice a difference between the Demos and the non-Demo M800s [although negligible, not sure it will weigh that much less].

Just a thought and I don't want to speak for the OP, just my personal observations.

I'd like to hear how BSB works in it too, think it will be fine honestly, and probably just see the same ink getting into the area of the section/nib that's seen with any inks used in these things.

If I had a Demo, I'd try it with BSB without worry, and I'm pretty cautious about stuff like that.

I really don't feel it back heavy, just like a green striated M800. I'll try to find the equilibrium points of both and I'll post a picture, but not right now.

I've got the nicer ... er ... I mean un etched Pelikan 800 demonstrator. I started out with a medium nib and traded ChartPak for a fine. The fine, believe it or not, writes VERY much like your reground stub. I love the pen and they way it's line looks on paper - wet and rich with some variation and "character" to the line. The pen has never skipped or hesitated yet. The balance is great to me, not back heavy and I post when I write 90% of the time. But then, I favor a larger pen generally. These hold a LOT of ink and the piston is smooth as butter.

 

I'd buy the pen again even though it's the most expensive fountain pen I own. And I'm pretty sure that you're gonna be using and enjoying yours for a long, long time to come. So, the cost per smile is actually quite reasonable.

I did it myself. I chose a O3B because there is so much iridium to "experiment with". Reading (a lot of) topics here and there, and with some ordinary tools I managed to re-grind it. I enjoyed doing it. That's all.

Regrind is customization of the nib point which occurs when the existing tipping of the nib is wider than the desired one. Here I had O3B that was customized to stub (about 0.9 - 1.0). O3B is wider than 1.0 that's why it"s called regrind.
