That's just a pretty ink--and your writing isn't so bad, either. ;)

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

Your handwriting so greatly resembles my ex girlfriend's , I am stunned!

This is my favorite purple/violet ink by far, not only because it's used specifically for letters, poems, and notes to my girlfriend, though that plays a huge part!! :) I love how it goes on a medium purple and then fades to a lavender, perfect for what I was looking for!!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

That is very pretty. I think it goes on my list of inks to buy.

I've been on a quest to see if I could commit all Seven Deadly Sins in a single day. Finally, it dawned on me I shouldn't try for the One Day Wonder Prize for all seven in one day. It's simply out of any question as you can't commit decent sloth while busily ticking the other six off your crowded "to do" list. -- ViolinWriter

Very nice ink. Diamine is my favorite ink. Thanks for the review.

I have grown to also like Diamine. Currently, shades of red are my favorite. I believe though that I am almost ready to move into other colors, this violet is nice and also deep magenta. I like Diamine only right now and of course montblanc is always the traditional love of ink. Least favorite is Noodler's although I love the names and many of the shades. :happyberet:

Beautiful ink, and fantastic handwriting. I will have to try this one and see if it is room for more purple among Waterman's Purple and Herbin's Violette Penseé. In this comparison made by Ms. Finley, looks almost identical to Violette P. Anyone has both?

I hope the color of the scan in this review, as shown on my monitor, is correct or close to it. I admit I don't have any patience. I've waited two hours for this ink to change color, change to something I wouldn't have to shield my eyes from. Maybe the waiting period is two days and not two hours. Whatever. I bought a bottle of Diamine Violet today, inked up, and—expecting the first wet line to be a tad on the reddish side—wrote, and my anus retracted so tight I could've held a straight pin in there. I'd seen the reviews of this ink, including this review. And based on what I'd seen here I was expecting something different. The color was a dead-ringer for (I had to fish around on FPN for this) Noodler's Lermontov from the Russian series. It's repugnant! The second it came out of the pen I had to look away. I thought, omigod I'm going to have to write with my eyes closed. I can't look at it anymore I can't wait till it dries dry already dry dry dry! I spent $15 on this this I can't say it on a family-friendly site. This review and others say Diamine Violet changes color to periwinkle after it dries. Well, it dried ten seconds after it hit the paper. Periwinkle, come on baby, show me your periwinkle! It ain't happening. After two hours it looks more hideous every time I see it. I'm getting nauseous. I would've waited another day or two to rant but I didn't have the patience. If it ever changes color to, well, anything within a country mile of "violet" I'll let you know. Meanwhile, I'm already boxing it up to mail to a friend who likes lavender and fuschia.

Update 8.30.09—It's been 16 hours. The dried Diamine Violet, if it changed color, didn't change much. It's still lavender. I've salvaged this ink by diluting 4 parts of Diamine Violet with 1 part Noodler's Midnight Blue, which yields a mix very close to the color I hoped I'd get when I bought Diamine Violet. It's a true violet. By the way, a 3:1 mix yields a blue with a slight tinge of purple. A 2:1 mix yields a twin of Sailor Jentle Blue, but with saturation. Actually, I've salvaged two inks with this experiment. I'd back-shelved Noodler's Midnight Blue because I'd only gotten an acceptable hue out of a broad nib; in other pens the teal highlights were a turn-off. Predictably, the teal disappears when you dump 2 to 4 parts of Diamine Violet into it.

Colorwatch update: 44 hours later, Diamine Violet, which went on the paper fuscia and went through an initial drying stage as floral lavender, has graduated into the wisteria phase, apparently on its eventual way to periwinkle. (Earlier I'd erroneously included this reviewer among those who'd described the dried Diamine Violet as "periwinkle." My mistake. On the other hand, at least as shown on my monitor, the ink color in this handwritten review bears no resemblence to my dried Diamine Violet. I would describe the color in the OP as han purple or maybe Aurora Blue. I'd forgive Diamine its misleading label if the ink looked like either of those colors.) And while fuscia, lavender, wisteria, and periwinkle are shades of violet, the word "violet" usually calls to mind a different violet.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

I was about to post another ink review when I saw Bookman's remarks regarding dissatisfaction with his bottle of Diamine Violet and the color representation in my scan. Who hasn't been disappointed with an ink based on an appealing review, me included. Selling or trading an ink that doesn't work out is a great solution to dealing with dissatisfaction.

BTW the original scan holds up well against the image in my post and Diamine Violet still looks great with my Periwinkle True Writer. Lucky me! :D

I will plead a mea culpa and explain in a minute. But first, I've fortunately had more hits than misses when I've bought inks based on FPN reviews, scans, and photos. I plan to post my own review of Diamine Violet in the next few days using XF, F, M, and B nibs to clearly show the entire range of this ink. I had a startling but reassuring awakening the other day when I used my Waterman Exclusive F to send a notecard to that friend I mentioned, and the writing on the envelope dried lavender—predictably—but the ink on the cardstock dried a deep blue with barely a hint of violet, about halfway between Waterman Florida Blue and Aurora Blue. So until we meet again I will retract all the nasty things I've said about this ink and save the remainder of my comments for my own review.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away.... I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link.... Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos! If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
