Handwriting Sample

Recommended Posts

I just received my Parker 51 vac from dannzeman. I loaded it up with some Pelikan Brilliant Black, and here are the first strokes out of the pen. Paper is a cheap 6"x9" Ampad Writing Pad, great for writing letters. Writing with the Parker was amazing---I won't be able to put it down for a few days. :D

I'd like to hear what you think of the handwriting--my every day college note-taking chicken scratch.

Thanks,

xsquared

Good stuff, Mike!

Which of Dan's 51s did you get?

I got a black 51 with a steel cap and a fine nib. So far I've been quite happy with it. The pen seems to be writing quite well and I can't put it down. A three page letter to Grandma and I'm looking for more to write.

IMO this is nice, clear, legible handwriting which is very even on the page.

hey, I'm glad you're enjoying that pen! If you ever decide you need another one let me know.

Nice handwriting, btw, its unique.

It's a lot better than I can do, I can't write that legibly at anything close to note-taking speed - but as you wanted a critique, to be picky: capital G looks a bit Y-ish or maybe upright. Occasionally I read your "be" as "he".

Fairly consistent, good slant, quite legible. Your handwriting style is much like mine. When I go very slow and focus on clarity I can almost match what you have here. I'm experimenting now with stylized printing to give the page a little spritz. That is REALLY slow but it looks almost decent. I'm also starting to practice copying some of the cursive fonts. I write the way I was taught and that's IT. I'd like to be able to write in several styles.

It is fun to write with a good pen after years of ballpoints.

It looks just like my handwriting, except better. Did we have the same writing teacher in elementary school?

If I could only produce anything like your work.... :P

Thanks for all the comments. I was taught "cursive" in 3rd grade (1st and 2nd focused primarily on print). For a while I used print, but when I got into fountain pens I naturally drifted back to print. It seems very natural with a fountain pen--it makes me wonder how different my handwriting would be had I learned on a FP.

Much more beautiful and legible than my chicken scratch. Evenly spaced and uniformly slanted.

The thing about handwriting is that you are used to your own handwriting. I tried to take notes in business script for a while and I found that I couldn't read them afterwards (at least not as quickly as my usual chicken scratch).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
