Levenger Pinkly

I noticed that there was no review for this ink, so I thought I'd post one to redeem myself from the Thistle Co fiasco. :headsmack:

Any who... I LOVE PINKLY. It is truly a shame that Levenger discontinued the color. It is just pure unapologetic eye searing pink (something that is hard to capture in a photo). It is not an ink you'd find yourself writing a monograph with. I use it for marking papers and editing.

Now some of the important points:

The ink is pretty well behaved. There is little feathering or bleed through unless it is used on poor paper. Even still, it does well on xerox copy paper.

It flows quite readily and provides good lubrication.

I have only observed minimal shading, but with the right pen/ink/paper combo, I think there is some potential.

It is VERY saturated.

It dries fairly quickly at around 5 seconds.

I have checked this picture on two monitors and it shows true to color (with perhaps a touch more blue than it actually has in it)

I got this color in a Levenger ink collection I bought off ebay and I enjoy it much more than I thought I would. The color is just fantastic. I have to agree that it does flow very well, lubricates nicely, and of course, depending on paper, it may feather. But, of the 9 Levenger inks I have I don't think there are any that don't feather.

What a bright pink! Not that an adult couldn't use it, but I think teenaged girl and a diary with a lock and key when I see it. Definitely pretty ink.

Thanks for the nice review. Looks like a color that my daughters will appreciate, too bad it is discontinued.

Same thoughts here. Shame is discontinued.

I also like this ink but think of all the fun you can have mixing your own color when your Pinkly runs out! It's fun to have a color all your own! :)

My daughter loves it; I haven't figured out what to get when her bottle runs out.

There is a thread somewhere with the best pink alternatives. I recall one f the mentioned ones was Diamine's Cerise and other Herbin's Rouge Cyclamen.

Yeah, I've seen the thread. The cyclamen seems a bit more florescent than the pinkly and may be a bit much to actually read. Diamine's Cerise and Pink are possibilities, but they seem a bit reddish. Nobody local has either Diamine or Herbin ink.

Pelikan pink ink in international cartridges only?

is it my screen or does this scan look a little bit on the purple side? My bottle of pinkly looks more like the scans of Noodler's baystate cape cod cranberry in that it is VERY bright, and VERY pink with no hints of purple in it. It is a lot of fun to use, but i do agree that finding the right application is key...definately not an everyday color.

Does anyone happen to know whether any of this ink can be purchased anywhere at all? I really love the color!

Many have been searching, but the only supplies that are left are likely personal (hoarded) stashes. People continue to search for alternatives though.

edit: A friend just recommended Noodler's Baystate Cape Cod Cranberry as a very close match, based on a comparison she did this morning.

Too bad you can't use that brand then! :ltcapd:

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Diamine Scarlet is also a decent match.

Needless to say, that bottle is long gone. If anyone happens to know of...or runs across...a bottle of Levenger's Pinkly please send me a PM. Thanks, June (ladyinthemists)

June - May I suggest you ask the Goulets for samples of Diamine Claret, Deep Magenta, Crimson, Scarlet and Hope Pink. I think Hope Pink may be the substitute you are looking for.

I LOVE Levenger Pinkly! It is one of my favorites!

That being said, I did try a sample of the Diamine Hope Pink and some other pinks. It was the closest out of all the pinks that I tried, but only in certain writers. Definitely not an exact match, but could work as a substitute when I run my bottles of Pinkly dry. I do like the Noodler's Baystate Cape Cod Cranberry, but to my eye it isn't a match. Similar, and lovely, vivid, saturated color, but it's just not Pinkly.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
