See review below. (orange is where down strokes struggle). See also this link https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...showtopic=51337 for pics. BUt that reviewer likes the filling system - I struggle with it.

... BUt that reviewer likes the filling system - I struggle with it.

Hi, Nice review Thanks! I got my 743FA a couple of weeks back and it has been behaving well, in fact I like it very much, However it also skips sometimes in the middle of a stroke and I have been using Pilot Blue Black in converter.

The trick to filling the converter is that the button should be depressed quickly, you may release it slowly. This has to be repeated 4-5 times till the converter fills. The system is a multi stroke plunger filler similar to parker vac systems, innovatively adapted by Pilot. I also found that it is sufficient if the central hole in the feeder is dipped in ink submerging it, no need to submerge upto the section lip.

Best,

Hari

If you follow Hari's advice, you'll be able to completely fill your converter.

To minimize the thinness of the lines it'll produce, try other inks. I find that Noodlers Bulletproof Black and RedBlack make my 743's FA nib write significantly finer hairlines than Pilot BlueBlack.

I like handwritten reviews! I have a Pilot 742 with an FA nib for about 10 months now, and I have never experienced skipping (except when the converter is empty). Perhaps it has to do with the size of the handwriting or the ink? I have used Aurora Black and Tanzanite (Binder's mix) without any skipping.

Does the speed at which you write make a difference? If you slow down and allow more ink to flow, does it fill in the lines more completely?

slowing down helps, but not necessarily. Tried two inks so far, next time i'll try Florida blue - seems to be the safest ink for all my pens.

After ten years my go-to ink remains Waterman Blue Black. I love the color but what I really like is how the ink reveals shading incredibly well. If a pens skips or lines don't fill, I know I've either bought a stinker or a pen that needs professional servicing. Do you have that ink? If you do maybe it will help you assess the pen's capabilities.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
