In my very first foray into wax seals, I was excited about the notion of sending out Christmas cards this year. I have not done so in several years. I ordered a very nice poinsettia coin stamp, and the aluminum handle, along with some red wax sticks. The wax arrived very quickly. The stamp and handle have still not arrived, even though the order was placed on 11/26/07. Even accounting for production time (you'd think that a poinsettia stamp would be in stock this time of year), and allowing time for shipping, it should've arrived by now. The window of opportunity for mailing the cards with the stamp has passed. Without divulging the name of this company just yet, have any of you had similar problems? What company was it? Is there another company that deals with wax stamps that has been good to work with?

Look at some of the other posts about wax seals in this forum category.

 

I had a custom stamp done at the Design Studio Ltd which came as advertised. The impression is one depth relief, an artifact of the manufacturing process, but came as I requested with my details. Their shipping was prompt and the stamp was well packaged.

 

I'm currently commissioning a stamp through Dexter Engraving and their customer support has been superb. Their engraver called from the UK to discuss my requirements and has emailed several times to ensure all is to my specifications and satisfaction.

 

For some unique seals and by far the best wax, no one beats Atelier Gargoyle. Linnea is prompt at responding to emails and working to accomodate you. I can't recommend them enough.

Same here; both Ward and Linnea offer knowledge and service that beat the others completely cold. I, too, simply can't recommend them enough!

Did you design your own seal, and if so, are you willing to share?

 

When I was bored a few nights ago, I designed a simple one around my initials. The thing is, I have never written a letter before, so I really have no need for a wax seal. :headsmack:

 

It'd still be cool, though. Maybe I'll get into written communication next year in college, when I actually have a need. I wonder if they'd allow a butane torch in a dorm... :hmm1:

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess Not So Much Allowed. :) A low-temp glue gun and the faux wax sticks that fit within them sound like a better fit for a dorm. Although I seem to recall a number of incendiary substances in the halls...

Wow, Dexter sure spiced it up a bit.

 

Here's my lack-of-all-that-is-good-in-designing design of a seal without any measurements that took about five minutes in MS Paint B) My initials are TV, so it is necessary to avoid any connotations of the technology. Plus, having the family initial bigger is always good to show respect. I find that simple Times New Roman V's are much more beautiful than most cursive V's (is that a U? What are they saying here?), so a triangle seems to work fine.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
