French Outdoor Antique Show

Seville

Recommended Posts

My best friend retired to a tiny village about 1 1/2 hours outside of Paris a few years back. He and his wife love to go to the vide grenier {a kind of village garage sale that is organized by the powers that be}. Now each town gets one sale a year and my friends will organize outings each weekend to go to as many sales as they can.

We have done this with them when we are over visiting but this year I sent him on a mission for pens. Thus far he hasn't found much but yesterday he sent me these two pics just to make me jealous.

A very nice selection. From what I can see in the photos the seller's booth it looks like he is a regular vintage pen dealer so I am sure there will be very few if any bargains as he seems to know his business. If you go to any of the larger pen shows in the U.S. you will see hundreds of booths like this. If anything his prices are likely to be higher than normal since he has no competition. Also, if his prices were bargains you would not see so many really nice pens in his inventory - they would all be sold.

For someone pretty much confined to dealing via eBay until I found FPN, a seller who knows his business is in himself a bargain...

Oh I am so jealous.

I happened to be in Europe a few weeks ago and went to one flea market in Belgium, but saw no pens. I just bought one old bottle of Pelikan washable blue ink. That was especially nice after my recent incident between Parker Quink and my favorite dress shirt!

  • 4 weeks later...

Où est-il ? Qui est-il ?? The man aux mille plumes ? ....

*sigh*

Oh dear ... I will have to roam all the "vide-greniers" and there are hundreds of them going on everywhere in the summer over here ..

:)

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
